Actinic EPOS - A good buy? Advice please

    Dear All,

I am considering a new till system and have been advised that the Actinic catologue software can link into Actinic EPOS. I've also looked at some of the threads on this subject. We currently run an older Samstock and a basic Samsung till for our smaller outlet.

I have been given various options: Samstock/Samsung, TMS, EPOS systems, Datasym (Toshiba). Does anyone have any suggestions, opinions etc.

    Thanks

You really shouldn't believe everything you read in the papers. Actinic Epos is not very good; there are speed issues, corrupt file issues and general functionality problems. We were told earlier in the week by Support that they are not using any of the later versions as they cause too many problems, what an indictment. We have been using it for 18months and are currently looking for a replacement.

          Hi Brian,

I understand you may have been advised by support that we are not using the later versions as they cause to many problems.

I can confirm that Actinic EPOS revision 2.92 is the current official release of the software and is very stable.

We are sorry you have been experiencing functionality problems with Actinic EPOS. I understand Actinic support are currently working on an outstanding support issue you have raised, and we hope to have this resolved shortly.

Please free to contact me at Actinic Technical support and I can help you with any outstanding issues you have.

          Thanks

I hope not......I've only just bought the bugger and I'd rather it was developed and worked upon

We have had our system for 16 months now and I have to that over all I am happy with it.

Of course there are a few irritating issues that have turned the air blue and they are well documented in the forum, but I am not IT minded, so will never be able to achieve the softwares potential, that said I have found Actinic Epos support very helpful, and I am happy to work with them to evolve the software.

I fully accept that it is sold as "developed" and have muttered such down the phone line myself when something even I consider basic fails.

I would still recommend the software to smaller retail shops like ours, not just because the cost is a fraction of the competition, but because Actinic are hands on, willing to assist, and a genuine, honest bunch, who would appear to of put a healthy reputation on the line here, so will IMO sort it.
