    Retrieving Orders problems

    Hi all,
I had 2 server crashed recently and everytime it makes me loose all my order even if I tried to retrieve them. Could anybody help me to find another way to retrieve the orders?

    Many thanks

Could you consider using a better server possibly?

Is this really a V10 issue?

Lee is pretty much correct though. The orders are stored as files on the server and should be safe from a server crash unless you have to re-instate the files from a backup, in which case they might not be there.

A temporary solution might be to use something like a mole end wizard that can be set to regularly download/upload orders to minimise the impact.

But yes. Sort out your server. There are so many good hosts around that there's no reason to put up with one that's no good.

        Thank for your answers.
I'm sorry I don't know if my thread to a v10 issue or not as I am new here and my actinic is v10, I though it has its place here.

The server we used is 1&1, in the first crash, the electricity was cut from the office and the server was on battery, and while it was on battery maybe for too long, some order weren't retrieved but the customers received the confirmation emails.
It also happens few days ago but strangely this time, we managed to retrieve the order but the customer didn't get the confirmation email.

The stock control in V10 provides an automatic download of orders as the stock is updated. Time can be set in seconds between updates. If you are not using stock control you can still use this to download the orders as it will simply upload the same value (whatever is set on the product page) to the stock each time.

When you mention server is it the 1and1 server that failed in the office or are you refering to a server in your office.

Actinic downloads orders from the Web server onto the local PC (which may be a local server), once downloaded they are stored in the Actinic database of this PC, and as I understand the operation the files on the Web server are removed.

If the local PC fails to store the data during the download due perhaps to the power supply failure then there is not much you can do.

The battery you mention I guess is in a UPS, if this is a server then you should use a UPS which is able to communicate with the server and shut it down before the battery starts to fail. once the supply voltage starts to drop too much there is no way of predicting what a computer will do, it needs a steady supply to work properly.

Thank you for your reply, I will advise all your recommendations regarding the server to our IT staff.

Yes we have a server in the office, sorry I'm a bit confused about server because I don't really know much about it.

Is there a another way to download the orders from the Web server, without retrieving them from local pc?

Sorry I'm not using the stock level or I will have to daily change the stock because we also have wholesale orders indepedant of the website.

                  Im confused here

V10 expires tomorrow so if your running your business on it then your in s**t

Unless ofcourse i have missed the release and the issue of keys, but i dont think so some how. Interestingly whats going to happen tomorrow, is v10 beta going to become inoperable? im still beta testing a current issue with GC plus some other niggles im trying to identify the root cause of.

But that said i cant see it being released just yet as its not ready IMHO

It might be an idea to get your IT guys to come here if your not sure on how your setup works

bascially orders are placed online. you then download the orders to your pc, these are stored in the database on the local pc and not online, once downloaded they are removed from the server (online). you can not download the orders to somewere else they have to be downloaded into actinic.

I presume it'll just stop opening after tomorrow. IIRC, that's what the alpha testing did.

I really need to keep using it as I'm testing other stuff with it so hopefully new beta keys or a new beta release will be quickly available!

Vendula, Are you sure you are using V10 - it's a beta version only, it's more likely that you are using V9 - you can check this in the about box on the help menu.
