    International Maestro Payment Rejections

We recently received 2 notifications of charge backs amounting to £51 from Barclaycard Merchant Services. On checking with Barclaycard Merchant Services exactly what the problems were over 3 lengthy conversations and call back promises that were not fulfilled, we established that the rejections of payment had been made by the International Maestro cardholders banks residing in Belgium and Finland for these transactions.

Barclaycard Merchant Services advised that International Maestro card are chip and pin cards that should only be used when the customer is present. This is different to the International Maestro card promotion blurb on Google that clearly states this type of card can be used securely for online purchases. The cardholders transactions passed through SellerDeck Payments MasterCard Secure and Third Man security checks without any problem so we assumed there would be no problem with payment transfer to our bank.

Unfortunately this was not the case and on raising the issue with SellerDeck we eventually agreed to have all Maestro card payments blocked as it was not possible just to have International Maestro Payment method blocked.

This post is advisory for other users trading outside the UK to consider in order to avoid problems and frustration caused by International Maestro Payment rejections that could result in financial loss and amount to higher value transactions than the ones we experienced.
