    Hello Mike
PC at work, laptop at home, both with 6GB RAM, W7 64-bit.

Your upload speed seems OK - I agree with the other comments - upgrade the PC used for uploads.
We upgraded to an Intel Xeon machine running at 2.67 Ghz and W7 64-bit - it made a marked difference to Sellerdeck processing speeds.

    Cheers
    Sean

      Paul,
Have you checked the total file size of the HTML and images that SellerDeck has to upload?
I.e. number of files and the total file upload size?
If, for example, your total image file size "load" was 2Gb (unlikely however....) then an upload @100Kbs could take hours!
Also, you didn't say if you have compressed upload enabled or not? (under Network setup under FTP options)

        Right...

        HP Compaq dc5700 Microtower
        CPU 1.80GHz
        3.49GB of RAM

And the last sitemap I generated had 1,689 URLs if that puts the sites size into perspective..!

I think my comparable site is 1,578 urls, so not that much difference.

What CPU is in the PC? There's quite a difference between an intel celeron and a core 2 duo at the same clock speed.

And what sort of speed is your dsl uplink?

Just to put my penny's worth in as it's nearly Christmas

As the computer seems quite old when the post started, does it have a very old modem/router thats the bottleneck?

Bare with me, not so good with the technical bits! Just did a speed test though, and here's the results (may mean more to you than it does to me!)

                Download 7.90Mb/s
                Upload 0.86Mb/s

I think the CPU speed is low at just 1.8GHz. You need a real workhorse PC for that size of site. So while the memory is just about adequate, it's pointless with such a slow processor.
Our main PC for uploading is an Intel i7 with 3.4Ghz CPU and 8GB RAM. It's fast, even a full site refresh takes less than 2 mins for a site about half the size of yours.
More of the boss's money needed I think

That upload speed is terrible. Download is OK I guess.

                    Here are ours for comparison:

                    Ping: 41ms
                    Upload: 16501 kbps
                    Download: 64339 kbps

So our upload is nearly 20x faster than yours.

                    New broadband required too?

Some idea of the processor would be good indication of the PC performance.

If you don't know, download CPU-Z from CPUID. This is a great little free utility that will show you what processor you have and more.

You can download it from here: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Funnily enough, my broadband speed is about the same and it's not causing me any problems.

It's not really a huge site so I'd think we can get the times down to something reasonable without new broadband. It does all depend on the page sizes though and whether there's anything that's preventing an upload from working properly.

                        Mike

PS. 16Mbps upload is tremendous. I'm quite jealous.

I also have a fast upload speed now and it makes a tremendous difference. We have the top tier with Virgin, 120Mbps down and 12Mbps up. I can't achieve the download speed on just one PC (max per PC I've tested is about 75Mbps, limited I think to memory and hard disk speeds in the PC) but the upload is usually at least 12Mbps on any machine. We also use a very good Netgear 900 router which made a big difference too when we swopped out the old one.

Amazing to think that I was connecting to Compuserve and bulletin boards at 300baud not too many years ago.
