    SMTP problems suddenly appeared

    Hi,

I have not made any changes to my website for at least a month, and I've been processing orders as normal.

But today, I tried to set up a new account and send the Password e-mail, but I got an error saying there was a problem with my SMTP.

Nothing has changed from my side, and I've spoken to 1&1 who also confirm that nothing has changed at their end either.

Any ideas why I might be getting an error?

When I run the network test, the error is reported thus:
The 'SMTP server' address entered in the 'Web | Network Setup' is incorrect, or not a valid SMTP server.
    Possible Solutions:
    1) Try "localhost" as the "SMTP Server"
    2) Check the "SMTP Server" host name, user name and password with your server host, then correct the details in 'Web | Network Setup'
    3) Check your firewall settings

    Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
    server: passed
    connection: failed
    sockets: passed
    communications: failed
    authorisation: failed
    message: Connection refused

If you've made no changes then 99.9% chance your host has. Contact them and check.

Looks like a problem at 1&1. I use 1&1 Business / Linux for my demo sites and cannot get the network test to pass on sites it used to.

Perhaps someone else using 1&1 can confirm this.

I will check my 1and1 hosted sites later and check if I have same issue.

          1 and 1 SMTP

          Hi,
I have two servers with 1an 1. On one of them I have the failure issue and on the other, on a different server SMTP works fine.

This issue is a 1and1 issue, after some research I changed the SMPT server to mrvnet.kundenserver.de , this currently works, but would be no good for high volume websites.

I'm going to get into the ribs of 1and1 tomorrow, the tech support I spoke to tonight was only first tier and I suspect I will have to escalate this issue.

I'm sure it will be to do with anti spam.
What would be interesting is to know a list of webshop addresses affected so I can hit them with 'it's not the software' it is something you have done.

          Cheers

          Andy

Has anyone seen a shortage of orders while this has been happening? In previous versions of Actinic, the checkout has hung on transfer to the psp if the smtp server isn't responding. I don't know if this is still the case.

All of my sites as well as all my clients' on 1and1 are affected. That's about 10 sites that I'm aware of.

Well, I suppose it's a small consolation that I am not alone! I also tried Mvrnet.kundenserver.de but I could not get that to work either.

I'm also sufefring from the same problem. Network test fails and can't send emails from Actinic.

Our sites were working fine yesterday, but stopped working over night.

Same problem here on 3 sites (on Actinic v10) - cannot email from Actinic and fails the network with the SMTP message...

Sent a test email via Outlook (with the same server) and it works, how strange?

                      Tak.

Using mrvnet.kundenserver.de works for me with auth (username and password required) ticked and my username and password entered.

first try = mrvnet.kundenserver.de "could not find"

Second try = it's found it, and now hangs on "test SSL" and finally says cgi-bin permission problem

                          Third try = all successful...

Uploading : sometimes the ftp doesn't connect!

                          Seems to be randomly bad...

I did get an email recently from 1and1 about server changes, could this be it?

                          Tak.

is the mrvnet.kundenserver.de a temporary fix?

update : failed to send email after successful network test ...
                            (uploaded before sending)

                            Shared Hosting = all fail
Managed Dedicated Server = No problems

                            Tak.

It looks like 1and1 are playing around with settings as now mrvnet.kundenserver.de gives an 'Authentication not supported' error.
