    Design Layout problems

Right then, As a long standing reader (but not real contributor as most peoples questions that i know answers to are solved before I get the chance to get my email away!) I am looking for some assistance with a re-design that I have to get started on.

The website that I look after (www.classicouk.com) currently has a fairly standard actinic site bolted on to our own catalog pages. Now I am having to spin this shopping cart side off on its own as we are adding loads of new products from other companies which can't be allied with our classico brand.

Now the problem that I have is that i need to improve the layout of the Actinic pages and make them look more like the Classico pages as it will be standalone. For example, a page such as http://www.classicouk.com/acatalog/O..._630.htmlneeds to look more like this http://www.classicouk.com/lotr4x6.htm but with buy now buttons etc next to the relvant images and the obvious pricing info etc.

I have versions of actinic from v3 through v6 but have never really got into the template editing. I use DW for the main site and wish that Actinic could deliver a more designer friendly route to page layout (i don't want to open up a html editing v dtp style layout option here!) but obviously it can't.

Now to get to my point!! does anyone on these forums have a site which is like what I want and can point me in the right direction before i go off and spend months trying to work this out. I know its cheeky but my boss is asking for the impossible with deadlines on this and I could do with any help thats out there!!

Thank you all in advance and a very merry christmas to you all!!

It sounds like you need to get into template editing.

I would imagine that you are using the Actprimary.html template for the main. You should open this in dreamweaver edit it to make it how you want,

I would recomend leaving the netquovatars alone as deleting these will stop various functions from working correctly.

I have greatly modified my templates on this site www.telecoms.co.uk

I hope this is something along the lines of the help you were looking for (it would be a good idea to simplify your question a little)

You can edit Act_Primary.html template as required, and as long as you leave the content of the <HEAD> and <BODY> tags alone, and as long as you still include NETQUOTEVAR:FORMBEGIN, NETQUOTEVAR:BULK and NETQUOTEVAR:FORMEND, the rest is up to you. You need to leave about a 550-600 pixel-wide area for your products and sections, but you can completely customise the area around this.

Check out the Advanced User Guide (downloadable from the download center on www.actinic.co.uk) for a list of all the variables you can put into the Act_Primary.html template for doing navigation etc. Also, there is a 'Designing with Actinic Developer' guide at the same place which is more of a step by step guide to custom site design.

The Advanced User Guide also contains a guide to setting up a page of product thumbnails.

        Hope this helps.

I sent shnufc a quick guide but done this off list so the HTML never got broken up by the forum software.

Also, can we have sticky messages that reamain at the top of the forum e.g. with a link to the AUG and the latest patches.
