    Postage charges

    Hi,
I currently have a site where the customer selects their postage address and the postage is calculated as a single amount per order. However the client wants to charge £2.50 set fee in the UK and in addition, 50p per item - but only in the UK. Does anyone know if this is possible please.

    Hi Jane

You can do it but what you need to do is set every item to a weight of 1, then in you shipping you need to do carriage by weight. However you then need to specify the charges for each band i.e 1 = £2.50 2 = £3.00 e.t.c until you cover all the possible quntities that people will buy.

There could be a simpler way but i do not know how.

    Cheers
    Darren

There could be a simpler way but i do not know how.

Change the 'Calculation' to 'By Quantity' and then in the 'UK' zone, remove the existing (demonstration) shipping classes and add a new shipping class (right click, 'Add Class | New Class') called 'Standard Shipping'.

In the table for this class, create a new row with a 'Quantity' of 1 and a 'Cost' of £2.50. Set 'Excess' to charge £0.50 for each additional item ordered.

You can then remove the other shipping zones and change the 'If shipping band not defined' value to £2.50 - thus charging that amount for anyone outside the 'UK' zone.

Thank you for this, but when you say
Set 'Excess' to charge £0.50 for each additional item ordered. I do not seem to have that as an option. The choice is :
        Dont Allow excess
Take the higest value in the table
Increment highest value in the table by

The last of these options produces error messges saying I have specified invalid options, yet the first two grey out the excess options. Am I missing something?

        Your help is much appreciated.

Check out the picture I have attached. It will show you what I have in mind.

Hopefully it will fill in any blanks left by my description earlier.

            Ah!

Seems I did not make it clear at the beginning. The client has different charges for different countries and it is only in the UK that he wants to have the add on of 50p per item. If this is not possible, I dont mind telling him so - but if there is a work around I would love to be able to do it.
            Cheers, Jane

              In that case:

              1) Create a new zone that contains all the countries in the world that get charged the same rate.

              2) Create a new class within this zone called 'Standard Shipping'

              3) Create a new row in the shipping grid with a 'Quantity' of 1 and a 'Cost' of however much you charge for these countries.

              4) Set 'Excess' to 'take the highest value in the table'

Repeat the above steps as many times as you need to create all the required shipping charges for the different countries.
