Actinic announce purchase of Checkout Retail Systems

We are pleased to announce the purchase by Actinic of Checkout Retail Systems, a leading EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) software and hardware vendor. Checkout Retail is the developer of the Checkout software range, a best-of-breed EPOS product for small to medium businesses in the retail and hospitality sectors.

Actinic will continue to sell and support the current range of EPOS systems, and will be investing in a significant marketing and development programme for the Checkout software. We intend to compete aggressively on price, and obviously we will also be developing a close integration with the Actinic ecommerce range.

Bringing together two leading ecommerce and EPOS solutions is a natural progression, and will enable our users to combine online and offline systems, offering customers a seamless multi-channel experience.

We believe this development is very significant strategically, and will open up major new opportunities for us and for our partners. Details of the partner programme will be communicated later, but please email sales@actinic.co.uk if you would like to register an interest.

Is it likely that version 8 will include integration between the new products and if so how far off is the next version, there has been mention of February elsewhere on the Forum.

    regards

James, I'm sorry but it's not our policy to comment on release dates (because problems can always put them back). What I can say is that you can guarantee that v8 will come out during the current year.

In terms of EPOS integration, we haven't yet completed a feasibility study so we don't yet have any timescales. However, I can tell you that we will be doing an initial integration as fast as we can. My current guess is that it will take a few months.

Again, its' not decided yet but I can imagine we may have a policy of a free upgrade to the integrated solution for people who buy ahead of time.

Having said that, I think that Checkout is a great system in it's own right. Anyone who buys it won't be short-changing themselves in terms of value for money.

I've looked in the Actinic help, but can't find anything about the current range of EPOS systems that Actinic supports. How can I find out what they are? I'm keen to integrate SamStock with Actinic.

Actinic themselves and the software is not directly connected with any EPOS solutions (although might be third party solutions out there), but they have just purchased Checkout Retail to provide this EPOS ability, which will still be a little while off...
