    Why did I bother - 8.5.1

I was lead to beleive that I was being to disparaging after my fiasco upgrading sites to 8.5. So i stayed with 8.04, eagerly awaiting 8.5.1.which was released today.

Given that i've got a stack of upgrades to do (probably won't now) I thought I'd run a site through the upgrader. Give Actinic the benefit of the doubt and assume all would go well.

Hahahaha, the rant of a lunatic.

I can't show you the hash the upgrader made of my site design because it won't upload. But it has ignored my outer layer, added brochure page navigation, and ignored my css, and thats just the first glance

I get the following error - which prevents upload

Some filenames conflict. All files being sent to the web site must have unique names. Please check the list of files in Design | Additional Files.

Some of the following files must be renamed before an upload can occur. Once the files are renamed, reselect them in the Actinic.

Now.... i installed the program files into C:/programfiles

    and designated d:/ActinicV8-DATA for files

so why do i get this rubbish.... I reported this as a bug in October. http://community.actinic.com/showthr...light=conflict

I resolved this last time by removing the files in the other folder, but this time I really can't be bothered. i've leave the site at 8.04, and if i do any more upgrades they will be to 8.04 too. I'm now going to uninstall 8.5.1 , so I'm not that interested in workarounds, I'll revist when it gets fixed properly.

Although not a direct correlation to your problem, if i license a site with a folder such as 'ProductPictures' for images and then import a snapshot over the top of this one where 'Images' is the folder for images, the 'ProductPictures' folder still remains in the new site. Are you experiencing an inheritance problem here?

If i import a snapshot over the top of another, i expect 100% of the last site's data to disappear, not linger around as it currently does.

I'm up for a while, if you would like to send me a snapshot i will try it my end for you to make sure something stupid isn't happening your end.

I'll send a snapshot if you don't mind i'd be interested to see how it goes.

I've just installed 8.5.1 on my new laptop....old site used to have everything in site1. this was the first site to get installed on the laptop, virgin V8.5.1!

The folder its complaining about is a folder of all my admin that i keep for clients.

Move to Tamworth, it works up here and we have Kingsbury waterpark if you start feeling homesick.

2 logical reasons for this problem:

              - designer works differently to multisite
              - you killed a black cat and paying pennance

Ain't that the truth....you spend all day working in designer, compile the catalog, import 5,000+ items, export the file (NOT the ridiculous SS), send to the client (both versions are 8.0.4.0.0.0.0 etc)

You then awake to an irate customer saying "I CANNOT BRING YOUR PRODUCTS IN? ERROR ON LINE 5, PRICE FORMAT IS NOT SUPPORTED?"

So, where did we go wrong

1 Designed site and actinified via DW V8.02 (not using CS3 yet, still playing)
2 Exported the SS WITHOUT any products
                3 Compiled the DB
4 Imported into Designer...all is well
5 Exported DB and sent to client

                WHAM...no good

Jeeeze Louise, V7 was not this much of a pain.

                When can we expect V8.5.2.0.0.0

JFTR, DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON 8.5+ that still acts as a coffee table coaster

Jo - I know you are not looking for workarounds, but I really want to get to the bottom of what did happen, and so I hope we can work together on this.
But it has ignored my outer layer, added brochure page navigation, and ignored my css, and thats just the first glance
When Actinic asked you about upgrading layouts, which option did you choose? The one to use when doing version upgrades is 'Do Not Upgrade My Site Design' as this will ensure that Actinic doesn't do anything to your layouts, and just upgrades the program code. It looks like Lee used this option when upgrading the code, as all the customisations (e.g. your optimised page titles) were retained. Any ideas where that code in your layout might have come from. If you look in the <title> tags, it says 'yoursite.com' - does this ring any bells? It's custom code rather than Actinic code so it must have come from somewhere, which might help pin-point what has actually happened with your design.

Also, what was this path - 'D:\PB_PARTNERS\_Pinbrook\Actinic\Texas\' - used for in 8.0.4? Was this a site folder? I don't think it could have been as 8.0.4 didn't support site folders outside the 'Program Files' directory. Was it maybe used for an external design? If so, I don't know why there are theme files in there (e.g. 'theme_arrow.gif') as these should only ever be in 'Site' folders - so it looks like a different issue to the one you experienced before (with transferring a snapshot from one site to another - which has been fixed, honest).

Any additional information you could give me would be gratefully received. Ideally, if you could let me have a snapshot, I could probably tell you exactly what's happening. Please email one to cdicken /at/ actinic /dot/ co /dot/ uk or else if it's too big to mail, let me know and I'll let you know the address of an FTP server to upload it to.

You then awake to an irate customer saying "I CANNOT BRING YOUR PRODUCTS IN? ERROR ON LINE 5, PRICE FORMAT IS NOT SUPPORTED?"
Sounds like a mapping problem - with someone trying to import a non-price field to the Actinic price field.

                      Hi Chris

                      Thanks for the reply.

Checked that mate, just to confirm, the file was exported out of 8.0.4 designer (in full working order) as a hierachy and imported without any change to 8.0.4 cat client

Very confuzzed and annoyed at this latest 'glitch'

                        Chris

To the contrary i'm afraid, i let actinic upgrade the lot to see what it did and how it handled it. I was then going to reduce the changes to see where a fine balance could be achieved, however it did it very well to both of our amazements and there was no need. Only some very minor tweaking ws needed on a couple of layouts.

Just thought i'd try an upgrade using the top option as recomended by Chris

i now get a snapshot error

                          "Errors
(File ExportSite.cpp, Line 1637) - Registry error 2, key Software\Actinic\Catalog8\Sites\Surf-Wax2\Catalog - The system cannot find the file specified."

this refers to where the site was located on my old laptop. I intentionally waited until 8.5.1 was released before I put actinic on this laptop. It has never had any version of actinic on it, ITS BRAND SPANKING NEW!... so how does it think it has a registry error?

.. welcome to the snapshot registry hell ... this is what I think is partial of the issue with the partial design snapshots .. something somewhere is getting remembered in the old site and when transferring it is still looking for the old settings

I had a feeling you had had an issue Jont, but I confess I didn't bother to look as I am very fed up.

for clarity though, this was a full 804 snapshot, to a 8.5.1 new install.
