    What on earth?

How can I charge extra if there are products that are particularly bulky to ship?
Solution: Create a new item in your store called 'Bulky Item Shipping Surcharge'. Give it a price of whatever you want your surcharge to be, and also mark it as hidden by ticking 'Hide on Web Site' in the 'General' tab.

Then, for any product that requires the surcharge, create a new component called 'Surcharge'. Within this component, ensure it is non-optional, then in the 'Associated Product' field, select your new hidden product. Ensure you tick 'Use Associated Product Prices' and 'Use Associated Product Name'.

This surcharge will then be added to the shopping cart at the same time the bulk item is added to the shopping cart.

I have just read this in the Knowledge base. I have to say I would rather be reading Harry Potter, but nose to the grindstone, this is all rather meaningless...

How do I 'create a new item in my store'?

    thks

            Thanks for this.

NO I have in fact created several (500) items in my 6 stores, but I have always seen them referred to as products/ fragments/ sections and the like.

Just to make you all have a good laugh, I was clicking through all the V8 menus looking for an 'add item' option.

            Cheers,

Can you tell me where to find the 'add shipping supplement' please as I have looked everywhere on my product.

I usually have free postage for orders over £45, but there are a couple of items that cost me £20-£45 to courier because they are so heavy. I need to be able to put supplements on these items so that I get some of the postage cost covered. Will this method work?

Select a product in the content tree, then select the 'details' tab of that product and halfway down in blue writing, it is there. Been as you say you've looked everywhere and it is pretty easy to spot, i'm figuring that you are not on V8 and maybe it is V7 or below you have? Check your version in the help menu.

No I definately have version 8. Business 8.0.4.0.0.0.GMVA to be exact. I can see in Blue "Shipping Details" but it simply has Weight in kg and a tick box for Ship Separately nothing about a supplement. I have changed the settings to go by weight or items or value, but it doesn't make any difference.

You need to upgrade to the latest version of V8, the additional shipping options were only added in V8.5.

Do you know if there is any way to apply postage to only International Orders?

Ship by weight and set the charges up accordingly for each country.

                              As i tell everyone

Use parcelforce website for the zones of the world and set your shipping up by weight

Im in Lee's camp here, weight is the ideal solution, taylor it to your needs
if you need simple but different for countries, set all your weights to 1 then create different zones with you countires and chagre different amounts for the weight
