can I use both weight and category setttings?

    Hi

Is there anyway to set up shipping so it works with both weight for some products and category for others?

I usually use the weight set-up, but for pre-orders which don’t get released until several months later, I’ve been using the ship separately option. Which works out ok, expect when somebody orders a item released with the same date they get charged the same rate of postage.

I’ve also tried using false weights for the dates when the items are released, which works fine until you place an order for a item in-stock, then you get charged the rate of the in-stock item.

    Any fresh ideas?

    Cheers, Daniel

Yes you can, in the shipping tab (zone/classes), take a more detailed look around, there is a drop down box (basis) where you specify the type of shipping to do on the class.

      Hi

      Thanks for the quick reply.

I set everything up in the shipping tab and I’ve used the basis tab. I’ve got first class post using weight settings, the same for recorded and international signed for.

Can I leave the weight option selected in basis and then also use the category option as well. I’ve noticed in each product you can select category, which I’ve tried but doesn’t seem to work.

      Cheers, Daniel.

It's a drop down box offering only one choice/basis for shipping on that class, so no you cannot do both, choose your method and that is it. If you select category, that should apply to the products with a category selected. Have a look at the inbuilt help on shipping, it's far better at explaining than me. I can do shipping, it's just hard to explain lol.

            I've just had this problem...

All products ship by weight using 3 bands, apart from an extra-heavy product, which has to have a fixed charge. I thought this would be covered by shipping separately and applying a shipping category to it, but it didn't - it was either weight or category for everything, not both.

What I found was that if I had shipping set to weight, ticked "Exclude from shipping band calculation" for the heavy product, and entered the charge into "Shipping Supplement", that product would apply its own charge every time independently of the other products.
