Actinic Shared SSL

Hi

I've just configured Actinic shared SSL. The credit card details page has changed and no longer has my outer layout around it. Any ideas where I configure this?

Also, how do I make the SSL apply to the whole of the checkout process rather than just the card details page?

1 Sadly you can not - you can not customise Actinic SSL pages

2 On payments tab, you can only secure checkout or whole site. If you have checkout ticked then thats it

The only way would be to buy your own SSL (http://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certif...html?entryURL=) for £41.95 a year which would then allow you to secure all the checkout pages (this might be actually required http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=37398 anyway) and also mean you can capture the credit card details without the need for Actinic shared SSL.

I'm more surprised that the shared SSL is £100 + VAT per year when you can buy your own for £41.95. Just thought it would also be worth a mention but even with Actinic Payments you would still need your own SSL to secure up the whole checkout process.

The Actinic shared ssl is an ability to take receipt of customers card details securely for manual processing through an internet approved terminal (local or online) and was created at a time when ssl for your site was a lot more expensive and when the host could not provide it, which many still are unable to believe it or not.

Actinic Payments is different to Actinic Shared SSL, as payments is full online payment processing, not secure receipt service, so a different fish.

Main requirement is that the payment details are secured and processed within correct regs, if terminal online/local or via a PSP like Actinic Payments.

Why don't you phone actinic and ask them? when you get an answer - post it here

but don't forget using SSL on its own is not PCI compliant.

I acn't see why Actinic wouldn't allow you to use your own SSL on there hosting although as Jo pointed out this on it's own will not make you PCI compliant and it might be worth changing to a host who offers semi dedicated servers and is willing to configure the setup accordingly to pass PCI compliance which is not as hard or long winded as it might seem.

If you are trying to become PCI compliant you might want to sign up using http://www.merchantplus.com/scanalert.php which will give you 1 year FREE McAfee Scan Alert that amoungst other things allows site owners to test if a site is secure and passes PCI checks etc. If you pass everything you can also then pay and display McAfee Secure which i think is replacing the McAfee Hacker Safe service site logos etc on you site.
