    Discount - based on Quantity

    Hi,

I'm having a problem with setting deiscounts based on quantity. I have search the forum but not found any other threads about this.

I can't set a discount based on quantity. When I change it to "Based on Quantity" it keeps asking me to enter a figure. When you look at the "Trigger" its is still in £ not a number, so when I try to setup a 3 for 2 discount I can't set the trigger to 3.

Anyone else had this error? Or am I missing something basic?

    Using 9.01

The field should change to quantity and not value as you suggest when changing discount type. Something is not right. I guess you have already compacted the database and tried it again?

        Discount

        Hi Jont,

yes I tried compacting the DB. Tried everything I can think of. I suspect this is an "undocumented feature"?

Does anyone else have this problem? Or is it just my version that is wrong.
        Does 9.02 fix this?

          Hi Matt,

The only way I have got round this is to create a product with components, charge the first component and make it two products, then add another single component at zero cost, that way if you use Sage for instance for stock control it will output the correct number to count the stock down by three units

Thanks for the idea but its not really practical. The discount I want to do is a 3 for 2 one, based on 10 different T shirts i.e. buy any 3 of these 10 different T shirts and pay for 2.

If this is a "bug" then someone from Actinic needs to be looking at it ASAP

It sounds like your installation as it should work as you expect as default - I certainly have never seen it happening and I am unable to replicate on any of my installations.

                Jont,

I've now upgraded to 9.02 in the hope that this will fix the problem. But no luck.

I think I'm going to have to call Actinic on Monday a raise a support call.

One you have created your products you will need to create a product group.

Put the items into that group.

Discounts are then applied to the group - not the product.

Several options exist for basing your discounts on % off value, trigger prices, trigger qtys etc.

When setting up the triggers in the group you need to do them in reverse order, ie:

                  35% off - trigger qty = 10
                  25% off - trigger qty = 5
                  10% off - trigger qty = 2

if you put the them in the wrong order it will always give the max discount.

                    Thanks,

but thats not the issue. I know how to setup the discount but it wont let me do it.
I have raised a support call about it now. Apparently its an issue with the upgrade from 8 to 9. Something didn't happen the way it should have. They have seen it before and are currently looking at my database for a fix.

                    Thanks for the info though

Did you ever get this to work Mat?
I have the exact same problem, except mine isn't an upgrade but a clean install.

                      Based on: Quantity Trigger: 1

And I keep getting the error message 'Please enter a number'
If I can finally get it to go away it returns my 'Based On' to a value.

                        Hi,

There is a workaround for this until it gets fixed:

                        - set up the discount based on 'Value including actual tax'
                        - in the trigger field enter the quantity (e.g. a whole number)
                        - close Actinic
                        - browse to your site folder and open 'ActinicCatalog.mdb' (take a backup first)
                        - double-click on the 'Discounts' table to edit it
                        - find the row for the discount you added - 'sDescription' field will contain its name
                        - change the 'nDiscountBasis' field to '3'
                        - close the database
                        - open Actinic again and check/edit your discount and it should now be based on 'Quantity'.
                        ********************

                          Same quantity based discount error

I Have had the same error occuring and I cannot seem to avoid it without starting a completely fresh, empty catalog.... Which means all company data, shipping etc is missing... lots of totally unnecessary work (i.e. waste of time).

Simple intention is to reward customers for buying something that is already in a a decent box - thereby avoiding the costs of packaging loose products... so buy a CASE of 4 boxes of biscuits, save £1.

Simple enough - on quantity of 4 trigger £1 discount...

Nope. It wont have it and the BODGE for now might have to be to base it on values that I know are multiples of that product.

I am attempting to rebuild this website from a v6 copy that has been (and is) running live and integrate it with some v8 design work (that couldn't be completed due to faults with VAT calculations)...

AS USUAL - any upgrading has been a miserable experience with many hitches... I was hoping to use the Bank Holiday weekend to swiftly upgrade while I have the time off... but this is looking very unlikely now - probably a complete rebuild.

Actinic people - if I really will need to completely rebuild my website every 18 months to make it work properly I shall migrate to another system... you have very few advantages over other systems that I have evaluated, and the main reason we still use Actinic is compatibility with the way we have built our business around it. And that is not a benefit for us...

The last time I attempted to upgrade I couldn't even get this discount to work because of your daft VAT system... an 85p discount that rounded up to a £1??? what nonsense...

Noone should have to open and edit their databases to get this working... none should have to come up with creative bodges...

These are FUNDMENTALS!! I just cannot understand why so many basic fundamental things have slipped from version to version and are not properly executed - I feel you just don't get how our businesses (and customers) work.

Just tried this, gave me The Fear a little bit but it seems to work OK.

This still hasn't been fixed in 9.05. Will it be in v10?
