    External linking to Access 2007

    Hello,

I have a link from Actinic to my external database (Access 2000).

I have just upgraded to Access 2007, and find that I can no longer link directly - I have to save the database as Access 2003, because the file type has changed from .mdb to .accdb, and Actinic is unable to link to this.

The reason I was given for this not being updated was that "hardly anyone uses Access 2007" - well I do (or would like to) and find it very odd that Actinic have not updated this function in line with the changes to Access.

So, my wish is to have this linking updated, and hope anyone else who does use Access 2007 will add their name to this list - even if they do not currently wish to link it to Actinic.

    Thanks,

    Rosalyn

What would actinic gain by changing, would it run faster or have less bugs etc, most microsoft software gets bloated with upgrades and have new functions hardly anyone uses

I would say that if Actinic allows you to link to some other software - from Microsoft or anyone else, it is not unresonable to expect that they will update this feature as new versions of the other software become available.

But every one with more modern access can save their work in older versions, probably most people who have access are using pre 2007 versions and would not need to update

I assume it could also cause updating problems if they kept following other software all the time

        Keep it simple

A lot of users would probably migrate to other e-commerce software (or not pay for the Actinic upgrade) if they were forced to also upgrade to the latest versions on Access, Crystal Reports etc.

I would hope that Actinic just stick to the version of Access that gives the best stability.

TBH they are stuck between a rock and a hard place as some people want 2007 and others (me inc) still use 2003. My issue now would be that i use a combination of Open Office and Star Office, so will not be buying MS office unless i have a compelling reason.

It might be an idea for actinic to see if they can integrate with more open source products.....

The spell checker in Open Office would be nice

Currently, you select the file type you want to link to from a drop-down box, so I was thinking more along the lines of adding the new version as an option, rather than replacing older versions - I agree it would be unacceptable to expect customers to upgrade their other software to keep up with Actinic.
