Site Review - Celebrations the Party People

Just recently upgraded to ver 9.0.4 about 6 months ago and had some extensive work done on site design and layout, S.P.P., product review feature, also bought lists etc.

Went from 195 section pages to 2300 product pages yet google does not seem to rank any of the single product pages...

Would really hope that all the experienced actinic community users here would give my site a good going over and let me know of your comments.

    My opinion.
There's very little extra descriptive text on the product detail section pages that is not already there in the parent section so I wouldn't expect them to have much ranking in their own right. As it stands your parent section pages are ranking well for the keywords I tried.

You would need to add substantially more details on the product section pages to help. In your case this may not really be possible as the products in many cases are very similar.

There are two key things you have to remember about Google Rankings. Pages are rated on:

      a) relevance ( unique content as Duncan describes above)

      and

      b) importance ( Generally based on Links and where they come from)

Your site has a low pagerank which is usually a sign of having few relevant links and low importance.

In general, the deeper the pages are in a site, the lower their 'importance' is and that's your problem. Not enough content and not enough importance to make the pages worthy of being in the results pages.

To fix it, add more content and get more links.

For SPP to really work you need to have at least a couple of relevant paragraphs about the item your selling.

        For example:http://www.celebrations-party.co.uk/...s-15-inch.html

        Could read:

Long black gloves, elbow length gloves in black stretch material. These 15" long black gloves are a great addition to any of our maids fancy dress costume or even our 1920's period outfit.
The bold text relating to your other items could be links, ot you could use the related inks options. At the moment your related links aren't relevant at all, you're not even linking to your white alternative?

You could have cause combine the two colours into one listing and offer the buyer a choice?

You seperate your fancy dress into "Fancy Dress" and "Fuller Figure". I would be more inclided to have "Nurses Fancy Dress Costumes" and have them all under that one section. After all if I want a nurse's costume that's probably what I'd google.

        Fancy Dress
        >>>Men's Costumes
        >>>>>Greek Fancy Dress
        >>>Ladies Costumes
        >>>>>Nurses Fancy Dress
        >>>>>Cleopatra Fancy Dress

I wouldn't be too concerned that these pages are not appearing. They allow you to have a direct landing page so you can list items on Google Shopping. The parent section pages that are indexed are direct action pages anyway with price and buy now buttons.

            Thanks for the great response..

I understand fully what you are saying in that the more info page should contain more relevant content to that product.
Unfortunately you selected a product that I have not worked on yet..
If you could cake a look at :
            http://www.celebrations-party.co.uk/...e-Setters.html as an example..
I have tried to provide much more relevant information to the product as well as relevant Also Bought links...
Am I on the right track here??
            You comments are appreciated..
            Thanks..

              Re: Site Review..

              Thank you for your comments..
What is really confusing me is that one of my pages :
              http://www.celebrations-party.co.uk/...corations.html
can appear as No 1 on the natural Google UK results for New Year Decorations with only 6 products and very little work or tweaking - yet..
my birthday decoration pages such as :
              http://www.celebrations-party.co.uk/...corations.html
with many more products per section and a lot more effort in decriptions, title tags etc can never seem to appear above the fold in google??
Any ideas as to what I did right in one case and wrong in the other case??
              Perplexed.
              Hope you can enlighten me..

                .
Google shows that your site has 2470 pages indexed

And google is ranking you well for your chosen titles

                http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=dre...rlz=1I7GGIT_en

                http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cow...rlz=1I7GGIT_en

Your question should be are these the best titles for attracting customers to my site and are these keywords being searched for.

                  That page is much better.

Remember that Google prioritises your results according to your history, so make sure you are logged out when doing any keyword testing on your site.
