    Slow start...

Okay... We are moving on from XP to Win7.

We have a problem with a large site(~200Mb+.mdb)

When we load up the large site on Win7 it hangs during loading up (we see the progress bar on the bottom left stuck, each time at different %, most of the time stuck at 100%) - and finally loads up about 1-2 minutes later.
    - during this, the whole of the explorer window/desktop is hung (it's like the whole system hangs but any programs opened can be ALT-TABbed and used without problem)

Loading up smaller sites doesn't have this problem
    - it's quicker to load up the small site, then switch to the large site.

This delay does not happen with the XP machines, only the Windows 7

We currently have unresolved issues with ActSyncSvr, would that cause this?
    - I'm sure I've never had this problem when running a backup from home = Win7

I've done all the compacting databases etc...

    Anything else I should try?

I seem to remember something about needing W7 Pro but may be confusing with another piece of software

      It's not slow... It's hanging

      Hi Chris,

All our W7 are Pro versions.

Tested on two W7 machines and both behave the same - large file = both hangs at 100% on the progress bar.

I've also found that once loaded, when you click on "Housekeeping" menu, it hangs again!!
      - when it hangs, all windows related programs are hung also (eg. Task Manager etc)
and any non-windows programs that are running can be used (eg. Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop etc)

What happens when you click "Housekeeping" ?

I remember reading once on a older post on Win7 issues that meta keywords must be less than 150 characters? I've removed all the keywords (something I read that Google doesn't use it), but still hanging).

(resolved sync issues by using IP numbers, so I think it's not that causing the problem)

I can't say for sure what's causing this problem but previous threads show there are a few areas worth checking:

        1. Slow performance with large sites used to be an issue with external images / logos / javascript files being pulled in for the preview cacheing. These should all be blocked from preview mode with a blockif. This shouldn't be OS dependent but it's worth checking.

        2. There have also been previous reports of problems with mixed XP / win7 installations. In the end I think some users went back to XP. This was a few years ago though.

        3. There were problems with Win7 and UAC in the past. This is pretty locked down now with desktop users but I do wonder about how UAC is coping with access from a server. It might be worth switching UAC off and seeing if that solves it.

        4. Firewalls / anti-virus could well be scanning the data as it comes in from the network. You could try switching it off, disabling real time protection, etc to see what effect that has.

If you're using SellerDeck V10 or lower, then you'll need to be aware that it won't upload properly on fully patched Windows 7 systems as they will have Internet Explorer 11 installed.

          See http://community.sellerdeck.com/showthread.php?p=341571

There's a link there to a tool that will let you prevent IE11 from being automatically reapplied after un-installation.

As this issue affects connectivity, it may be part of the problem you are having.

            Hi,

Thank you for all the help.
            - the IE11 is something I've not seen yet, so will implement that one straight away...

            What I've done is:
The mdb file is about 200mb
I've created a new site, then copied the site over and ran Actinic in XP
I deleted all the orders and then compacted in Actinic
            - this took about 2hrs! and occassionally getting the Sync Server Comm error (see attached image)

The site's mdb file without the orders is ~23mb

And it doesn't hang on loading, or when clicking on "Housekeeping"
            - we keep orders on Actinic for about 1 year,
            so currently it's got orders from 06/08/13 to 29/08/14 = 15041+ orders

It seems it's just the sheer number of orders that is causing the "hang"...

So, why does it have this problem in Win7 64Bit (with loads more memory, much faster processors, all on SSDs) and not on XP (less memory, slower processors, on traditional SATA/IDE HDDs) ?
            - they are on the same Gb network, so I assume it can't be a network issue.

Not sure what to do now... I may have to revert to XP being run in a VM on the workstations...

              I've done some more tests...

              Tried Data on:
              : all PCs on SSDs
: all VM images on SSDs
              : all with UAC=off

              Home PC (Win7Pro / Overclockered i7):
: Load = no progress bar = quick = ok
              : Housekeeping = no hanging = ok
: it works okay at home

              Work PCs Win7Pro (i5) / SBS Server 2011Ess (Xeon) / VM Win7 32Bit (via PC) :
: all failed, I'm thinking if it works at home, there must be something wrong with the work network
so, removed IE10, checked ODBC tracing=off, removed Win7 Implementation on SBS server = all made no difference.

Home = ok, but work = hangs
So, was looking to try a clean re-install a work workstation, but then I had these results:

              VMWare Win7x64 (via Home PC : Win7Pro / Overclockered i7):
              - Windows Updated to 30/08/14
              : Load = hangs at 100%
              : Housekeeping = hangs
              - clean install of SP1 (media refresh)
: Load = no progress bar = quick = ok
              : Housekeeping = hangs
: fails on VM, loading hangs maybe caused by a Windows Update
              - note: these two VMs are not linked, so I will update this clean install with ALL windows updates to see if it makes a difference
: switching between "standalone" / "shared" made no difference

              Laptop PC (i7)
: Load = no progress bar = quick = good
              : Housekeeping = intermittent hang = odd

Now I made 1 more test:
I took a snapshot and imported into a fresh install of : SellerDeck_V1205OFLD_UK.exe
Ran this on the work PC, result:
              Load = hangs
              Housekeeping = hangs

              So far:
Loading hangs = maybe caused by a Windows Update
              Housekeeping hangs = mystery
              &
Sellerdeck 2013 v1205 = does not resolve the problems

              ===
Note: Loading = hangs : sites on local PC directory are a little bit quicker ~1min, whilst work PC's on network ~2-3min (my Home PC where it had no problem, I tried both: sites on local and sites on nework share = both were fine, no hangs)
