    September '09 Update

Welcome to the September Actinic update.

It's been a couple of months since the last posting, and while most of us have been able to take a summer break, we have also been working hard on our products and services.

    Version 9.0.5

Since the last update we have finished and released version 9.0.5. As promised this fixes most of the more serious and widespread bugs remaining in version 9, plus a few others that were reported since the last release. For a full list of changes, see www.actinic.co.uk/support/changes_v9.htm.

With this version out of the door, our plan now is to focus heavily on finishing version 10. This will include some further bug fixes, some of which we will also put into another release of v9.

    Version 10

Actinic version 10 is still a few months away from production release, but work is proceeding well. We are working on some performance and usability improvements to the desktop functionality, as well as some great new features, including:

    • Real-time stock control
    • A new and more streamlined checkout
    • The ability to include product images in the checkout
    • Integration with Google Checkout
    • A built-in 'Condition' field for the Google feed
    • New order-picking functionality & enhanced user access control for Enterprise
    • The ability to 'shred' payment card details automatically
    • The ability to use an Outer Layout for extended information pages
    • Enabling one-click order processing to send confirmation emails automatically
    • The ability to choose which site to open on startup

    Windows 7

We have been busily testing our products with Windows 7, with promising results. Just a couple of minor issues in the ecommerce products, which are being resolved. But we are a bit nervous, because when Microsoft introduced Vista they made an unnanounced change to User Access Control in the production release. This broke Actinic and we had to rush out a quick fix.

So it's looking good so far but don't hold your breath – we are all at the mercy of the big 'M'... :-(

Unfortunately Actinic EPOS will not yet work with Windows 7, or with Vista if UAC is switched on.

    EPOS

Work is continuing on version 3.1 of Actinic EPOS, and also on updating Actinic Link for EPOS to make it compatible with the new stock control system in v10.

    Actinic Payments

Actinic Payments is continuing to grow in popularity. We think its combined appeal – PCI DSS compliance, highly competitive pricing, and the tightest available integration between an ecommerce product and a payment system – makes it a winning choice.
