          Can I play?

          Hi there,

Not sure what the rules are for this thread, but I'd like to show off my store and get some feedback.

It's my first one in Actinic. I was working in 7.0 when lo and behold, during my 30 day trial, v8 came out.

          Download. Start again!

I'd be interested in feedback: http://www.ursulajames.com

          Regards,
          Kind regards,

            Phil,

Nice non out-of-the-box look. However your Shop Online image link is opening the catalog page in the sidebar frame, not the parent.

              Oops!

Thanks very much for pointing that out. The link had target="_main" instead of target="_top".

(By the way, it worked fine in Firefox, which is why it got through without me spotting it.)

              Fixed.

              Thanks for the compliment.
              Kind regards,
              Phil Benjamin

It looks pretty but isn't working all that well ATM,
I got a bit lost in there, I looked at courses clicked to book online and ended up in a completely different non-actinic cart. I then looked for the shop and clicked on the icon at the top right, the actinic navigation buttons appeared but didn't do anything. I then when back to the home page but couldn't find a way into the shop, clicking on the shop button didn't work.

Following some fine assistance offline from Jan (many thanks to you) several bugs were identified - including the ones below, all caused by the same thing: using a target="_main" instead of a target="_top".

Warning: Every one of these errors looked fine in Firefox (and therefore, probably looked fine in Netscape and Safari), which is why I missed them. I generally check stuff in IE, but only when there are complexities - not a simple anchor!

My site is a bit better behaved now. Thanks for the compliments so far. I recommend this as a great way of testing your site, if you don't have a pucker testing crew. Trial by fire!

One point I would make is your use of frames - they are very bad in SEO terms. If you do a search on the forum you will find several threads about the reasons not to use them.

                      I agree.

The main website has frames in it, but that site has been there for a while and I didn't want to rebuild it. All the problems mentioned earlier in the thread were to do with those frames!

There are actually no frames at all in the shop site - which you enter via the shop online button, or the shopping cart. I exactly replicated the layout without using them.

                      Valid comment though.

                      Regards,
                      Kind regards,

Back to the thread of v8 example sites etc.

                        www.4suredomain03.co.uk

Content is to be populated in many areas, as this is the theme and functionality as opposed to the full structure of the products etc - with section images being replaced, so ignore the blur...

Sections with stuff in or is customized and using different conditions and new variables are Bob the Builder in Bundle of Fun, Candles, and Fairies & Ballerinas.

All pretty much controlled from within the v8 title with the mixed page of fragments and products in row as detailed in http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=24087 used here as the result, with some other minor tweaks along the way.

Be interested in any constructive views.

Another v8 site, www.chemipool.co.uk. I ran this site on v7 but had modified so many of the templates I decided that a fresh start was required with v8. This is running a fresh install of the latest version of v8. I rebuilt the catalog from first principles without doing any upgrade of the existing site. I then deleted the old site (from the server) and did a complete refresh. So far everything is working fine, orders are coming in and so far I haven't had any problems with the site. The template is the standard executive theme. The only change is the logo.

                            V8

I designed www.rayitson.com using V8, im a fairly new user to actinic and found it a lot easier than V7 and i liked the themes, especially the executive them.

Some great designs on this page, i liked www.4suredomain03.co.uk and http://www.ursulajames.com. Need to learn some coding so i can customise the site a bit more!

                              New site

I haven't used Actinic since V3, so it i was interested in see how the system has come along over the years. Please feel free to have a look at http://www.perilla.co.uk/index.html/. This is still a site in development so content and photography are changing all the time. Any comments are welcome.

Heres my own website www.ruralwebdesign.co.uk which I converted to V8 today. The upgrader worked very well - there are a few changes/modifications to do yet but its better than V7 so worth the effort.
