    G-Mail spam

Over the last couple of weeks or so I am getting an irritating amount of spam emails all from Gmail accounts through the @domain email account associated with our Sellerdeck site - I have another "personal" email account @btconnect and get none.

Is there anything practical I can do to prevent this please?

    There's two aspects to this:

    1. Where did they get the email address:

    - They might be reading your email address from the site, even with the [dot] stuff in it.
    - Never use your email address for free site directory submissions, etc.
    - Which version of Actinic have you got? Some earlier versions left email details in a file that could be read.
    - Once a customer account has been hacked your email address will become known to the spammers.

    2. What can you do about it:

    - If it's a generic and incorrect email address, turn off email forwarding.
    - If it's a correct email address such as sales@ then consider changing it to service@ or contact@
    - Invest in a decent spam filter. I find the one with kaspersky Pure works well and catches 95% or so of all spam.

At the end of the day spam is a fact of life with commercial businesses that communicate widely using email. Usually it's best to learn to live with it.

      If using Outlook - -

I use Tools: Rules & Alerts in Outlook (my main software for business emails) to set up my own spam filters, as I am then in more direct control. I have the emails delete as they come in if they have certain words in the subject line or content, making sure that those words could not also be used by genuine emailers. This works nicely and now the only spam is one-offs - if they are more than one-off I add them to the Rules.

I use the same method to move genuine emails to different sub-directories of the Inbox so that the main Inbox isn't too clogged.

Thunderbird has a superb junk filter, as does my host 1and1. Together with Kaspersky, we rarely get any spam into the main inboxes. In fact, can't remember the last time it happened.

          PS.

Mark, I would have sent you a PM on this but it doesn't seem to be enabled.

You have something odd going on with the page titles on your website. for example your home page has:

Online Discus Specialists @ Devotedly Discus Ltd Devotedly Discus</actinic:block></actinic:block>

<title> Online Discus Specialists @ Devotedly Discus Ltd Devotedly Discus</actinic:block></actinic:block></title>
You should probably look into this.
