Members Login Area - Non eCommerce

I have a client that wants a members area on a club website (this is not an ecommerce site).

I'm looking for a simple add on (preferably open source) that I can use. I'm presuming it will be mySQL and PHP.

Can anyone suggest something simple that would be suitable for this?
