    Multi Site License

I have an unusual problem, hope you can help...

The company have a multi-site Business licence and a laptop with an installation upon it was given to a party whom signed up as a master franchisee, they were able to administer and download orders from this laptop from our website.

Now this relationship has ended the party intends to continue trading online in another business, they still have the software and are not returning the laptop so could use a copy without paying for the usage of the license. My key will be shown so Actinic would probably be none the wiser, what action should I take...?

Notify Actinic of their details and have my key changed I assume perhaps?

Sounds like a dodgy/rather vague interpretation of the license in the first place to me. I'm not sure that actinic can retire a license key and everything run by that suddenly stops, so not sure what a new license key would achieve. If it were me, i'd have kept quiet and been happy with the laptop person breaking the licensing, if he uses it for something he shouldn't. If he gets caught, be it on his shoulders. The fact that you gave him the tools to be able to do it could be argued I guess, but you've only given him a gun, if he chooses to shoot it, that's his problem.

There is no issue as you gave away your license.

To clarify, the licence has not been given away.

In effect this individual should be considered an "employee of the company" working from another location, they have a company laptop which they have not returned and that gives them the Actinic Key to publish more sites if they choose to break the licence.

A franchisee is an employee, that's a new concept lol. I hope you pay him holiday and sick pay. Seriously, i'd drop that angle, it probably has more holes than a sieve.

You could contact the Police if an employee has stolen company property or at least threaten him with the same.

I always thought a licence key was bound to a URL or designated business.

Thus to use it on an unrelated site would be in breach of agreement.

We've seen posts here before when someone was selling a website on to another party - all they needed to do was inform actinic who transferred the key to the new owner.

Best thing is to contact Actinic.

I shall do that, contact them...

There is now a live site which has even copied (passing off) as my business under the domain http://naughtyvenduk.co.uk/acatalog/ which is nothing to do with me and it's my licence key that's being used.

A clear breach upon me and Actinic.
