Can Actinic integrate with an existing stock management system?

I am looking at purchasing Actinic Business Plus for a client and building them an e-commerce website.

As a business they have just installed a new stock inventory system called Map Premier, based upon a Datafile system. (http://www.datafile.co.uk/premier.html)

They want the web shop to have a sync / link up with their stock system. Is this integration possible e.g. if an item is sold online it reduces stock in their backend, and also if they sell stock offline the actinic shop itself will know if less stock is available of a particular product.

I'm very good at tailoring e-commerce packages and doing the coding, graphics etc but development work is a bit scarey....

Was just wondering if what I'm getting at can be achieved? (before i make the recommendation of them using Actinic for their internet site).

If the external stock system can linked to with ODBC then you can link the stock fields directly to actinic, that way if stock reduces through Actinic or through the external system both systems will be updated - be aware though that Actinic doesn't support stock control, just stock monitoring, so if you want items sold online to be reflected in stock levels you have to download orders to your PC, likewise, if you want stock levels to be reflected on the online shop you have to upload it. Look at External linking in the help for more details of how to link stock levels.

The next version has stock monitoring included.

      Stock Control with Sage

We use Sage which has stock control built in. We export our orders from Actinic into Sage using Actinic Link. As part of the order processing on Sage, the stock levels are automatically reduced when the order is processed. We enter our purchase orders on Sage and this automatically increases the stock levels on Sage. Once a day (4.00 pm), when all orders have been processed for despatch that day and Mole End downloads/export into Sage has been temporarily suspended, we update the stock from Sage to Actinic using Actinic Link - one click. This latter update corrects stock levels online caused by customers making failed payment attempts.

By having Mole End automatically download orders at frequent intervals and update automatically the maximum number of a product that can be ordered to match the number in stock, we have as near as possible correct stock levels on the website at any point in time.
