retrieving customers emails

is there any way of retrieving customers email in some sort of bulk way rather than opening up each order to get them from there?

Yes, you can use this plugin from Mole End Software (I work for them by the way) :

You have to either spend money or time, it is never free.

You can use export order to put the details into a file - the status of your orders will all change to exported and they will move to the completed tab if they are not already there and you have to do them around about 100 at a time. They will be in the file called something like persons.csv and there will be two entries for each order.
