There has been a lot of talk about Despatch Bay on this forum over the last couple of years... mainly complaints about the introduction 1-3 parcel collection surcharge (£1.95). I have been speaking to them recently about switching to using their service, and they were quick to point out that they do not have a fuel surcharge like many other companies. They also do not have a contract, so we won't have to ship a certain number of parcels per month, and if we ship a lot of parcels in one month the cost comes down the next month.
They have upgraded their software recently, and have an API (in SOAP) which developers can use to link the DBay system to another system (like Actinic). They do not, however, have anything to read in a csv file, which is a shame. I looked at ParcelToGo also, and notice they have a similar setup.
With seemingly all of the despatch companies 'going digital' now to save themselves time, it passes on a massive amount of admin time to customers who have to sit typing in addresses for parcels they are going to ship the following day. We do not want this!!
Codepath already provide a plug-in that will export a csv file, but what would the demand be for one to link Actinic with an API? And more specifically, is anyone using or considering using Despatch Bay?
My thought is that there is no point in us all getting bespoke software made individually so solve the same reoccurring issue/s...
