Show shipping as 0.00 in cart

Hi,

I have shipping set up by zone/class as Quantity. Most products carry the same shipping charge but we are currently reviewing this as we have introduced free shipping on some items.

It looks like I will need to change to shipping by weight which seems to be the recommended way to go.

Currently the items that have free shipping are set by selecting the exclude from shipping band calculation checkbox. When these are added to the cart, no shipping charge is displayed at all. I want to test displaying Shipping as 0.00 so the customer can see that shipping is 0.00 rather than leaving them guessing.

It does say free shipping on the product page, but we all know that not everyone reads everything, so I'd like to put a 'positive' Shipping 0.00 in the shopping cart. As you know many people rely on the cart when they do price comparisons.

So how do I get shipping to display in the cart even when it is 0.00?

For the cart to display any shipping info I think you'll need to use 'request location early' as actinic will want to know where stuff is going so it can work out the shipping charges.

Then you might need to alter the scripts so that the cart displays 'Shipping £0.00' when free shipping applies. I can't remember if this mod has been done before or not.

Hi Thanks for the reply. I've had a look at 'request location early' and there seems some good reasons not to use it as per here and here.

I will change my requirements:

I will put up with the shipping charge being displayed in the normal place during the checkout process. But at the moment if I make a product free shipping by selecting the 'exclude from shipping band calculation' checkbox, no shipping charge is displayed at all. Is this a script change? I cannot find any threads about it.

It only displays if there is a charge, as you have no charge, you have no display.

I presume then a script change is required, but I'm not sure what to look for or do here. Hoping someone can advise?
