    Big Actinic Sites?

    Hi

We just read the marketing update from actinic re christmas trading stats, see here: http://www.actinic.co.uk/news/050104.htm

We were astonished to find the average number of orders for a month was 1570, over the companies surveyed. I contacted actinic who said a few sites doing 20k orders/month brought the average up.

I cant believe this! Does anyone know of an actinic based supersite doing anywhere near this volume? I would love to have a look at one to see how their site works and what they are selling!

Or are the stats made up? (They say 98.6% of all stats are!)

    Happy New Year

The largest Mole End customer takes about 6000 orders a week (they are not an actinic site though). I spoke to a few people over the christmas period that took several thousand orders in December (I don't think that it would be polite for me to list them on here - they can always do that themselves).

I think that is is really important to streamline your order processing early on, so that you can cope with the busy times. We have done a lot of work with people now in this area and have saved hours a day for some people.

    Cheers,

      Big Actinic Sites?

      Hi Sally

I assure you the stats weren't made up - though it's tempting sometimes!
      :-)

Most of the sites that responded to the survey reported between 400 and 800 orders during Nov-Dec 2004. The average was actually 1520 - the figure of 1570 was unfortunately a typo, which I have now corrected.

One site did report 20,000 orders during that period. Obviously I can't verify the accuracy of that figure, and I can't name them because of data protection - but they do sell goods that you would expect to be very popular over the Christmas period.

Overclockers.co.uk will have processed a fair few... wouldn't surprise me if they were moving a good few thousand a week... their turnover is in excess of 30 million per annum, so they must be shifting a fair few in terms of orders processed... they're the largest Actinic-based site I check regularly...

We (over-clock.com) did on average 30-odd orders per day... nowt special - we've been busier...
        Cheers!

121cdr.co.uk seems to be a pretty busy actinic site. At the moment I would find it difficult ot deal with more than 10-20 orders a day as my business is more casual at the moment.

1.4 million pages returned by google, crikey someone has made some money there!!

ill have a browse through them...

Heh... not quite.... acatalog doesn't feature in our domain as we sub-domained it so that store.over-clock.com/ = www.over-clock.com/acatalog/
              Cheers!

At www.wheesh.com increased the number of items sold from 2,846 in Nov/Dec 2003 to 5,890 in Nov/Dec 2004.

We were 5 very tired people by December 21st when we decided we'd had enough and stopped further ordering.

Maybe the last Xmas for Actinic unless there is a networked version coming out this year.

                  Hi,
Instead of stopping customers ordering couldn;t you put a message on the front page saying that orders will be delayed by x days?

                        "See Mole End's product http://www.actinicplugins.co.uk/aca...ersInfoDet.html"

We've got that but it dosen't allow you to make any changes to an order such as delivery address changes, adding information to fields.

                        Thanks for the thought though

But it will fairly soon - it is designed for batch order processing but we are extending the functionality to include features needed to handle customer enquiries and requests, such as changing the address details, adjusting order quantities or entering substitute items. It will never do everything that Actinic does (for example it will never allow backordering) but it will become very flexible in the near future.

                          Regards,

There will be a networked version of Actinic coming out during 2005, hopefully in Q1.

                            Watch this space.
