How much for and IT person? Where's the best place to look?

Another Christmas over and it's time to start preparing for the next.
One of my rewards is to employ a full time IT person to be responsible for the website to include

Adding new products, including imaging either manipulting suppliers images or photographing here

Database knowledge to assist with product feeds to our partner sites and affiliates

Manage the affiliate programme

Support to marketing and PR for press images and email campaigns

Interpretation of web stats

Any views as to what we would need to pay for such skills (on the wilts/Hant border). There's no rocket science involved but we plan to add another 1,000 products to stock this year so there is a full-time job for somebody.

Its hard to say without knowing more.
Depends of what level of education will required to do said tasks.
But it always comes down to that old saying
'if you pay peanuts, you'll get monkey's'

We definitely don't want a monkey.

We had a pre-final year University Computer Science student on a 9 week placement in the summmer which worked very well so I'm keen on a graduate but it would have to be one who didn't mind doing some donkey work in the first year.

Your "Person" will require skills in the following

Dreamweaver, HTML, CGI/PERL, Photoshop (or similar), Actinic, Photography etc.


You would need to pay £25,000 in Aberdeen to get those skills

Most graduates expect to do a lot of donkey work when they start fresh from Uni. Good for your business, and good for the graduate, as he's getting excellent experience out of it. Although dont get one thats wet behind the ears, might do more damage than good.
Most graduate starting salaries around scotland, are between £16k - £19. Cant say for other area's of the UK.
