    altaire hosted sites down 24/1/5

    24/1/5; 13:00
Just a heads up folks, Altaire hosting have just had a major outage, so anyone hosting their actinic shops with these people might find theire site has dropped off the net. Ive just lost web, ftp, email, the whole lot.
Just phoned them and they said it is 'major, its the kind of outage you spend millions to prevent' quote unquote!!!!
no idea of down time estimates.

I know a few people here host with them, so this is a heads up.

        back now

yeah, sites up again at about 2pm

when tech support tells you its major, and nothing like it has happened before... and the ENTIRE altaire system collapsed, and noone knows whats going on....

I just thought I would post a headsup.

thankfully its over now and as you say, the sites back up, so thats cool.

        cheers folks

Unless they can tell you what caused it, and how they intend preventing it from happening again, I'd suggest you run... run and find a host that CAN explain things if/when they go wrong.

Unfortunately, DOS attacks are a fact of life - I've even documented how Actinic search scripts can be used to perform a DOS attack on any web server hosting actinic sites... how things are handled if and when these things happen are more of a concern than just getting things back up and hiding the truth from the customers if you ask me...

          regards
