Hi,
We often get emails from customers asking about products on our site and how to purchase especially from abroad. From time to time we get a number of emails which when we reply to using a standard email program (Outlook Express etc.) are returned to us as "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender"
Looking in the source of the returned email we see -
- SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:< xxxx >: host xxx.xxx.xxx:
550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable or not local
- Connection timed out: retry timeout exceeded
- Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable etc. etc.
As we are replying to their original email - the email address should be correct. Normally the original sender has just included a name - no other contact details like a full address or phone number. Often we don't now where in the world they are - literally !!
Has anyone come up with a satisfactory method getting back in touch with these potential customers - possibly incorporating into their website a "Unable to reply to your email" section. The problem here is where to put it so it would be hopefully seen.
Any thoughts, comments, or best of all - Tried and Tested Solutions !!!
Many thanks,
