    Remote working

Hi - I know i'm covering old ground here, but I can't find the original thread. I want to work on my website from home (different PC). Presumably all I need to do is install Actinic and import a current snapshot. Then I can do my updates - save it - and import it back onto my software at my shop for uploading.
    Is that right?

Just be careful you don't overwrite orders when importing the snapshot

Yep....just be careful about orders and make sure you keep a back up at all times.

Before importing your from home snapshot take a snapshot so if you do overwrite orders you can replace the file again.

All this advice is great but is the real question "why can we slip up and overwrite the orders" like a question I asked before the Snapshot should automaticaly be date time stamped and the orders could be kept in a saparate file to avoide this

Everyone is aware of the faults but when are they going to be removed to make failsafe operations

Maybe we should have a question of what we would like to see done for ver 8 and answers by Actinic as to why they dont do it, I was disapointed with 7.3 in that many problems were not solved and most likely no further updates will take place before ver 8 if past experience is repeated

I am aware there is no money in upgrades for Actinic, but i would prefer a four month delay on ver 8 and a further update on 7

I work remotely on a clients Actinic site and we used to use the method of emailing snapshots to each other when something needed doing but it wasn't ideal.

We now use Windows Remote Desktop which is built into XP and it works a treat for us. If something needs doing I just make sure that no-one is using the PC at the clients office running Actinic, login, make the changes required, upload the site and then logout again. If I need to work on it out of hours the client leaves the PC on for me to log into. Doing it this way means we're always working on a single centralised version of the site and don't have to worry about snapshots being out of date. We also have an FTP server running on the PC so I can transfer files to and from both PC's.

Doing it this way might be something to consider if you think it'd be workable for your situation.

            Cheers,
            Chris
