Online auction add-on?

I've had a plan for an auction section for our site on the back burner for quite some time now but not really done anything about it. Any comments on auction `bits` that one can use for a website, be handy if it was very customisable, and hosted, etc ourselves.

Or maybe better just to list stuff on eBay, with the worldwide audience that it has. Not to bothered about the eBay costs though.

I have a set of scripts that can create auctions but I have not looked at it for a while.

The advantage of ebay is the indirect publicity to give yourself, i know of a site who specifically lists things with ebay to pull people back to their main site.
