    initial thoughts on my site..

I'm half way through developing my first site using Actinic, and want people's views on the front page of the site. The site is far from complete, so am not interested in receiving comments about dead links/appearance of other pages. Just people's initial views of the front page design - i've spent far too long looking at it don't know if it's good/bad/etc.

    Thanks

Quick reply, looks good, but too many images and not enough text, this makes it slower to load (although less of a problem now than it used to be with more and more broadband users), but when you discover you need to get traffick through search engines, you will want more text so they have more to look at.

To me it looks as if it ought to be a watersport site.

I had to look twice to confirm that it wasn't

Going purely on aestethics, it leaves me abit cold. Layout of navs etc looks nice - but the colour and ripple theme doesn't work for me. Sorry.

Thanks for your comments. may have to replace the pictures on the front page, maybe with colourful pictures of the items that will be stocked - hopefully this will add some colour to the front page, and make it less cold/clinical..

not really sure what to do about the text thing, clearly putting text at the top is going to spoil the look of the site. Can you get away with including hidden text towards the top of the site? Or are search engines wise to this trick now??

            Hi Mike

Google is certainly wise to hidden text and will penalise you if if finds it on your site.

Good titles, URL's and well written keyword rich content is the way to go.

Avoid any hidden or spammy texts - google is getting much more selective thesedays.

            cheers
