    Bill, Bangers, Steve - thanks so much for your help, but fingers crossed I think Jo has come up trumps.

    Bill - I'll file that tip away for future ref.
    Bangers - not sure what you mean about the 403/404 thing - if you get a sec can you elaborate (in laymans terms!).
    Steve - this is something i've never done before, does it do something to a regular actinic upload?

    Cheers all - Nick

      Sorry Luddite was rushing a bit.

      I'll try layman's terms - 404 and 403 are numbers given to specific errors on a web server, there are lots more as you can imagine.

      The most common is an error 404 which is the number given to a file not found whether it be a web page or an image. So if Actinic hadn't uploaded the image I would see a 404 message.

      But I didn't, I recieved a 403 message.

      This meant that the image was on your website but I wasn't given permission to see it, just like everyone else. Which I grant you is pretty unusual.

      I don't know why it happened but I wouldn't worry too much as adding it to additional files seems to have sorted it.

      Clear as mud I'm sure,
      regards
      Bangers

        Nice one bangers - understood!
        I wish I understood why sticking in the additional files section worked - one of lifes little mysteries!

          One possible explanation for this is that the first time upload sent the image file through as an ASCII (text) upload thus and the file was corrupted in transfer and unreadable on the site. The second load correctly sent the file up as Binary (essential for image files) and it arrived safely in a format that could be read by the browser.

            Bill I think your right but I still can't explain why this was able to happen in the Actinic upload

              Actually I think that the explanation is that Actinic ignores images etc that have the full path included in the name, so it did not upload it, by following Jo's advice and adding it to the additional files list it was uploaded. To test this out change the file from "http://www.theperfectpad.co.uk/acat...ghtone_logo.gif" to "./naughtone_logo.gif" or maybe just "naughtone_logo.gif" and you will probably get a duplicate file error, which will be resolved by removing the entry in additional files.

                That makes perfect sense Jan - however, the code in the current fragment reads:
                Code:
                !!<<table width="50%" border="0" cellspacing="5" cellpadding="5">
                  <tr>
                    <td colspan="3" height="45">
                      <div align="center"><img src="naughtone_logo.gif" width="243" height="52" alt="naughtone: a fresh approach to  designer furniture"></div>
                    </td>
                  </tr>
                  <tr>
                    <td width="25%" height="135"><a href="http://www.theperfectpad.co.uk/acatalog/Plus_by_naughtone.html"><img src="plus_button.gif" width="142" height="142" border="0" alt="'plus' by naughtone: Storage solution and room divide."></a></td>
                    <td width="25%" height="135"><a href="http://www.theperfectpad.co.uk/acatalog/double_by_naughtone.html"><img src="naughtone_double_button.gif" width="145" height="145" border="0" alt="'double' by naughtone: fifties inspired sideboard or tallboy"></a></td>
                    <td width="25%" height="135"><a href="http://www.theperfectpad.co.uk/acatalog/Portion_by_naughtone.html"><img src="portion_button.gif" width="145" height="145" border="0" alt="'portion' by naughtone: sleek contemporary modular sofa"></a></td>
                  </tr>
                </table>>!!
                So, you'll see that the 4th line of this code points to "naughtone_logo.gif" with no filepath. This is also the file that I put in additional files, so going by what you say above shouldn't I be getting a duplicate product error? (I didn't).
                I'm reasonably happy as I seemed to have resolved this particular problem, however I was planning in using html in my fragments much more, which is why I'm trying to find the root of the problem.

                Thanks - Nick (www.theperfectpad.co.uk)

                  Yes, I would have expected to see an error there - actually you would probably only get the duplicates error is you tried to use that image from two locations on your PC, so I was wrong about the error, sorry.

                      When using DW, remember to save your page BEFORE dragging images over from the file list to your design view to create a document relative path.

                      If you don't.. DW will insert a file://....... path
