    Search Engine Position Software

    Looking to buy above software

    Any suggestions as to what is good or bad in this field to check position movements etc

    Tried "Advanced web ranking ver 4" trial which seems ok but would like suggestions from others on what they think is best in this field

    Probably not as sophisticated as you would like, but this is a useful tool, and it's free...

      "Looking to buy above software" ...

      Chris we've spoken before in depth about your site [ good to see some of our suggestions in place ] ; by hand is always better, if you really want your bottom line to increase then invest in a professional service.

      Check out: http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html

      and you'll see that they say [amongst other things] ...
      • Make pages for users, not for search engines. Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, which is commonly referred to as "cloaking."
      • Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
      • Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.
      • Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

          It is a free download and the vast majority of functions are free to use. Far better than WPG.

            Much easier and clearer by hand Chris:

            Make an excel spreadsheet with columns:

            Keyphrase :: Search Engine Link :: Position Week01 :: Position Week 02 etc.

            Keyphrase [e.g. - security gloves]
            search engine link [for google: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...UK%7CcountryGB :: for yahoo: http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p=...2FQABAA%40%40]
            position [now find your site and record the position - which in this case I'm happy to see you are no. 6 Chris ]

            Load up your excel sheet once a week and click the links to check for any improvement or otherwise and record it.

            Now more important methinks than position checking [and maybe you could add some columns to your spreadsheet for these] ...

            Conversions ??

            From your web stats ::

            A)How many searches for "security gloves" made it to your website
            B)How many searches for "security gloves" made it to your security gloves page ?

            From your sales ::

            C)How many security gloves did you sell ?

            And if you are running PPC ::

            E)How much did your "security gloves" [only these NOT the entire PPC campaign] ads cost you ?

            So in the case of security gloves you could measure stuff like:

            total enquiries (A) / total page views (B) = conversion rate from front door of site
            total enquiries (A) / cost of enquiries (E) = cost of leads
            total sales (C) / cost of enquiries (E) = actual cost of sales

            ah but we could go on all day methinks ....

              I use this for the sites I manage, tried the rest and this is the best, also you can get a trial download from here http://www.webceo.com/

              Its user friendly but does have a learning curve to get the best out of it.
