    Learning html

I've decided it's time to learn more about why my Actinic sites work. I reckon the first stop is learning html- evening classes would be good but no time at the moment. Can anyone recommend any good sources of info, or books (christmas is coming!) that I can begin with? Anything considered- thanks.

    Ben,
There are loads of books and websites covering all areas of this subject. If you want to start right from the basics and learn whenever it's convenient to you then I can recomend www.echoecho.com . It's where I first started and still refer back to when my mind goes blank!
    Good luck,
    Neil.

The "Teach Yourself in 24 Hours" range of books by SAMS are very good for starting with I found.

If you have a copy of a WYSIWYG web design package such as Dreamweaver, Frontpage etc there is nothing like adding something to a page and then going to the view source code option and seeing the markup in what you have just added - I am all for the "do it and see what happens" approach when learning something new backed up by a resource to tell me exactly what is happening and why.

I have Dreamweaver and have been tinkering, but it's the resource I've been looking for. Neilo's souce seems good- it's certainly passed the last half hour quickly!
Thanks Jont, I'll check your suggestion out as well.

I've found that http://www.w3schools.com offer some of the best tutorials and examples around, for HTML and so much more. I'd have saved myself so much time using them some years ago!

Learning HTML - alternative to Dreamweaver

              Hi Ben

If you haven't already spent all yout pocket money on an expensive copy of Dreamweaver, I suggest that you take a look at Namo (http://namo.com) I used to teach Dreamweaver but I have been using Namo for a number of years and it does all that DW does at a fraction of the price (circa £75) and it is easy to use.

              Regards
              Charles

                thanks Charles,
I have an old version of DW passed onto me, but I'll check out Namo also. The basics of html seem pretty logical which is good- I guess I just need to try out a few things and see what happens. Then there's CSS, Java, Flash, etc etc .....seems like I'm spending most of my life in front of a computer at the moment!
                All the best,

                  Hi,

A useful website for starting to learn HTML is http://www.gotomy.com/code.html. This lists the most common tags.

Here in support we have a copy of HTML Complete (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/078...3155&v=glance). This book goes through the aspects of creating web pages in HTML but also has a complete reference section at the back listing all HTML tags and their attributes.
