    Product Layout Opinions Please

    Have a look at a section i'm currently working on;

    http://www.partyconnection.co.uk/aca..._Costumes.html

    My thinking was, that if a I had small product images and presented them three across the page, this would improve customer viewing, load time, etc.

    I'd be interested in people's comments on this layout, would they buy from an online store of this appearance and if anyone has any suggestions for improvement to the layout, image size, etc.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Pete,

    IMHO I thnk that layout would work better for pages that have smaller images (wigs etc) ... that style of layout does save a lot of scrolling when there are many products in a section as you seem to have. The costume page probably requires a slightly larger thumbnail.

    May be worth tinkering in using a border to the products and maybe a slight colour wash to the background to see how that works!

    I would try and use the same number of lines of text description per item so the add to cart and quantity fields are all aligned (all for symmetry). The other option would be to set 1 pproduct per page and set the section up to mirror what you have done so far - so a click on the product image takes your through to the product proper - this will allow bigger images and more product description.

    Love the "add to basket" image BTW

      It does the job very well. Concise details are all that's needed for these type of prodcuts as you can always add lengthier text to the Popup.

      You can make these pages even more concise by losing the repeated product name - and just starting the description with "Includes...". It's also easy to lose the "Price:" and "Includes VAT at 17.5". You can use Design / Options / Shop Defaults / Page Header to put an "All prices include VAT at 17.5%" on every Product page.

        - thank you for your comments. I thought I was helping with search engine placement by repeating the product name in the description? I do like the idea of getting rid of the 'including VAT....' on each product and having it in a header on each page.

        I appreciate your point regards to layout symmetry.

            I'm really pleased with the layout on my site, but we are finding that quite a few people aren't realising that you can click for more info (currently on a pop up). Also, the pop-ups take so long to 'pop-up', you've got enough time to 'pop-out' and make a cup of tea! To get round this, we are working on this:
            http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=17511, which will be better for SEO as well I hope.

            Hope that helps.
