    ACD Backup to Site

On a daily basis I upload by FTP the exported ACD snapshot to a secure part of the website so a copy is off site. Due to a massive file size it was often timing out the server to much annoyance.

I have just found a file splitter at http://www.dekabyte.com/filesplitter/ This splits the ACD into more manageable chunks and also creates a executable file to re-assemble the pieces back together. I have split and re-assembled the ACD and imported back into Actinic without any issues. It can obviously also be used for splitting larger images, files etc onto CD's, Floppy Disk etc

Just thought I would share this with the community as may be of use to someone.

Another good one I've used over the years is Chainsaw, doesn't even need installing.

Out of interest though - why does the file size cause your server connection to time out? I regularly upload files of around 50 to 60Mb without issue.

I backup to 2 places - where the site is which is not a problem other than it eats the bandwidth - and I have "free" space with the ISP which after about 8mb tends to disconnect in about 19 out of 20 attempts and it does not support resumming - no fun - splitting the file has worked a treat though

Web space is as cheap as chips nowadays, there isn't really any need for a host to restrict space.
