    acer 8102 laptop

Hi, this is a bit of topic but I have a brand new Acer 8012 wlmi widescreen laptop for sale. It was a replacement direct from acer for a laptop i had stolen.
It is up for sale, i find the ultra high screen resolution a bit much for my poor old eyes. Anyway it is more than capable for running actinic on.
The spec is: intel pentium m 1.73ghz 533mhz 2mb l2 cache, 15.4 wsxga+tft lcd, Ati mobility radeon x700 128mb graphics, 60gb hd, 512 mb ddr2 533 ram, bluetooth, a/b/g 802.11 wireless lan, smart card data security, xp pro, 4xUSB2 ports, 1 firewire, dvdsuper multi double Layer dvdrw, 5-in-1 Card Reader, vga port, dvi port, docking port, s video, modem , 1gb network port , pci express.
I have had it since last thurday 5th jan 06 but just carnt get on with the ultra high res screen, 1650 x 1050.
It is as new, boxed but opened, all disks cables booklets etc that came with it.
These are selling for about £1000 on-line at the moment, I am open for any sensible offers below that, delivery will be by next day courier insured of cause, if you would like to buy please email me off forum, payment can be by card or cheque.

Phew - glad it is not just me with the dodgy eyesight - have various TFT monitors but still prefer my old Sony CRT for design work

crt is by far bst i would say for design, I have done a bit of reasearch on this and anyone running windows on apc will allways have problems with fonts and lcd widescreen with fixed resolution. The problem is that windows does not fully support scalable fonts, although you can increase dip for screen fonts this in turn effects print outs. Windows vista which should be out late this year is supposed to support true scalable fonts. Having a high resolution shows up badly designed websites as well. Fixed pixel fonts and tables with fixed widths throw up all sorts of issues.

.....until Windows Vista comes along, then the whole Windows font world will change massively.

We had an issue with a new Dell laptop recently. Using any program other than IE (Word, Desktop, FF etc etc.) it would show the fonts etc ok. In IE however the scaling just didn't seem right - after many hours of fiddling and searching the net I found out that the problem was the screen setting - it was set to 120 dpi - changing it to 90 dpi and presto IE worked brilliantly, everthing crystal clear at 1600X1050.

(Makes me squint too at that resolution!)

hi, i have since change the screen res to 96 dpi, this makes all applications work and print as expected, the problem being that everything is so small you have to get your nose right up to the screen. Actinic menu fonts dont scale, dont know if this is windows issue or actinic.
Dont have these problems on my mac computer, fonts are just fine there.

The actinic.css file is a pig of CSS .... the fonts are set as PX .. which is fine for nothing other than fixing the layout ... you should set to EM's or % to allow proper scalling and accessability
