    Force9 ccgi server

    Hi All
Some months back Force9 were having problems with their cgi server and so forced everyone to move to a new server (ccgi). Since that time there are several things which no longer work, the most inconvenient of which are failure when sending e-mails from within Actinic; time-outs when customers place order and before they receive confirmation/receipt and lastly failure of 'new order received' e-mails to me.

I'm using Version 5 of Actinic catalogue but I'm not sure if this is relevant.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

I know this may sound like a dismissive answer, but change hosting company. Sounds like they are rubbish.

Don't be nervous its not difficult if you choose the right company, we switched and within a day everything was as if we hadn't moved (ie visible site, search engines visiting, people ordering etc).

Just make sure you choose a good hosting company who can help you through the move and make sure they have a lot of experience at hosting Actinic sites. Plenty of hosting companies regularly help out on these forums - they are the ones who know actinic really well.

        Good luck

Since Actinic is uploaded from your PC everytime to make a change, changing hosts is an easy matter, as all the data in alreay in your hands. Therefore there isn't anything to lose, in both meanings of the words

            Hi

Thanks for the reassurance your help so far has been great. A couple more questions if I can -

Will Actinic (Software) let me upload to the new site and then switch over when I'm happy?

Also I've got Version 7 but some of the posts I've seen aren't too encouraging; should/can I upload a new site on Version 7, test it and then switch?

if your new host has the mechanism to allow you to upload a test site without transferring your domain name you can test before swapping over.

I would decide who you want to move to, then ask others for their comments on your choice.

Then take the plunge and ask for the domain to be transferred to the new host.

If you choose your host wisely you will have minimal downtime and a smooth changeover.

My advice is always to remember there is no such thing as a free lunch, choose a very cheap host and you will get no bells and whistles - if you are experienced then that is ok as you can work things out for yourself.

If you are going to need support choose mid to high range hosting.
