is the wecome page too much?

I know often with websites - less is more.

On my site at www.prescription-swimming-goggles.co.uk I have some flash and a water effect which I feel compliment the theme of the site, but do you think these take too long to load and so could put people off visiting the site?

    Hi James

I hope you don't mind, but I have moved this thread to 'Any Other Business' as it is not strictly a technical support request related to Actinic.

i like the layout, but perhaps your right, its a little heavy.

for instance, i use the triad to test sites,
      ffox/IE/opera

your java was uber slow on 2 out of 3.

and also, you might want to remove the line:

"Do you enjoy your water sports?"

from your front page. sounds pervy.

The Java does not load in either copy of FF or IE on my system as I dont have Java installed. Ask yourself how many other people dont.

Personally, I would never use it on a home page. A good image should portray what you want just as effectively.

once you are into the shopping pages there is no need to have any flash.

People are there to buy and not to be distracted by the annoying flash (this also applies to animated gifs)

I found the text flash very irritating, if I am looking at products, I don't want to have something in the top right of the screen trying to catch my eye.

I would get rid of some of the flash on the front page, don't forget the whole world doesn't have 24 hr high speed connections

Even on a 2mb broadband connection took an age before anything even appeared on the screen - was expecting to receive a "site not found error".. trying to click through to a product the server timed out.

Nice flash effects with the mouse ripple but not of any use to a ecommerce homepage IMHO - you would do better to get more products and text in its place
