My trusty Sony CRT monitor is on it's last legs and wondered if anyone has any recommendations for a (min) 19" flat screen LCD ... primarily for graphic design work.
We have a ViewSonic, a Hansol and an Acer - all are good, but its a toss up between the Hansol and the Acer for value for money. The VS is just too fiddly.
Thanks for the replies - had seen the Dell getting great reviews (especially for the money) and good to see it doing well in the real world also. Looks like the Dell 20" for the money
just got a 19" WS Acer yesterday the screen is great for Actinic as you can have the sections all down one side and still have a full width preview.
Seems a bit strange on some website though when it stretches them out.
Value for money was excellent about £150 from misco.
Whats the general feedback on Dell pc's? Need to add another to our collection, and their flyers do seem to have some good deals in there.
Don't touch them with a barge-pole in my experience.... we had 2 at work used for basic Word tasks and Email ... and they stunk like last weeks football kit left in the boot of the car! Mrs Jont's brother has just bought one and within a month it is going back. Our previous carriers (Amtrak) do the delivery and returns for Dell and everyday without fail there would be a return on the van!
Their PC's are cheap for a reason and if for business use are not worth the risk IMHO
I used to be a hardware engineer so am often asked to recommend things. I usually take the lazy route and go with whatever's in the PC Pro "A List".
I've never had problems with Dell and I also recommend them, but only if they have a special offer that includes delivery charges as their £57 per system delivery is exorbitant.
I'd ask them to provide XP Professional - and if you do a lot of graphics work (What! On an Actinic site?) , its worthwhile throwing in memory and getting at least 1Gb. You may be able to horsetrade some of their "extras" for those changes.
The (main) pc I'm running at the moment has an AMD, its always been prone to the odd `re-start` and `freeze`, possibly due to Actinic being open, a few IE windows, and possibly Paint Shop Pro, not much really though eh?
Feel free to list ideal systems for the 7day a week `Actincer` if you know of any...
