    Site Makeover - Feedback - please :)

    Hello all actinic heads

If anyone can spare a few minutes to offer some feedback I'd really appreciate it. Don't hold back if you hate it!

    http://www.tradehandles.com

We have built a handful of actinic sites so far but this one has been tweaked the most. Thanks in no small part to all the really useful posts on this forum and that it seems to be doing pretty well, so we can put the time in to it.

The site is pretty stable, just a get a few calls now and then that the cart content disappears when you proceed to checkout. If anyone feels like testing, it would be great to gauge the problem a bit more (which just sounds like a cookie issue to me).

    Many thanks.
    Steve

    Hi Steve

Just had a quick look at saw what I think is a pricing error - item number 901.68.237 ( Push Plate | 375mm Length | Satin St. Steel) says price is £35.14 whereas the others in the range are around £3.50!

Thanks for posting this - been looking for a push plate for our dining room for ages since we decorated and not found the right type and now have done so!!

Sorry haven't had a chance to have a good look around the site but like what I have seen.

Must say that I like it... might be a bit busy for some, but I like that kind of site.

Only thing that jumps out is text scales, as in IE when you increase the text size up to the biggest it breaks your panels and your widths all go to pot I am afraid

        I liked it too.

Found a spelling error in the link to Vetical Power Dock on the Evoline page.

Yep, too busy for some I think. Okay for me, mind. Lot of works gone into that 'site.

Some page titles are pants btw. Well worth sorting these.

I like the general look although it did make me feel a little dizzy at first (I'm a simple soul).

My only comment (as a complete amateur with a fledgling site) is that there is too much info and not enough bargains / deals / offers on the front page. In fact, the opposite of mine at the mo where it's all deals and no info!

Also has a scroll bar in 800x600. Just a bit chopped off. Not a major issue and may be deliberate on your part.

                  interesting niche market too.

                  a site all about handles.

now, what you need, is a section that only one legged eskimo albino midget ninjas can buy from, and you've got the most exclusive shop in the world.

I found it very good, but as other's have mentioned 'very busy' and quite small text. It appears to be hosted on a very fast server also. With a niche market product it should do well.

Thanks for the feedback fellow Steve. I got the guys in the office to rip it apart too and they came up with a similar view. So it's more offers, less text.

Eskimo quote - good one lol.
Fork handles - you're not the first, but it had to be said. Maybe there's an advertising campaign in there one day?..

Thanks to everyone for your super fast feedback. It was all very helpful.

Re: site being a bit busy, i know what you all mean we do need to do something about that maybe.. v3.0 we'll make it more crisp, less cluttered. I think it needs the eye of a graphic designer.

We intend to add another 400 ish prod's so the big challenge is to make it navigable.. Prob achieve this with the option to search for your fork handles based on customvar's (e.g. length, finish etc) ... of to search the forum again for tips on this ..

                            Many thanks to all.

Interesting point about design. I think it's the one thing overlooked by many webmasters. They all seem to think that because they are great at HTML that they will build a great looking site. Many I have spoken to have little regard for the 'artistic' side of things.

Our site is a case in point (not yet ready to make it public here :-) ) as it's very much bare bones. It all works as I want but it doesn't have a 'look' that I like. I have tried to make it classy but, to be honest, I don't have the skills.

So, my next task is to employ somebody to design an overall look and colour scheme to make is really stand out.
