    20% off Actinic Cover

    Hi all

    Still on the antiquated V5.

Thinking bout taking the step up to V8

Can I possible ask, has anyone taken up the 20% off Actinic Cover to obtain the V8 release?

Is it 20% off cover, or 20% off IF you buy the upgrade and are alreday under cover?

I've always thought the upgrade prices are on the high side.
Either by paying for yearly cover (which includes the upgrades), or by paying for version upgrades when they come about, you are looking at around £500 for each version upgrade on Business (based on a new release every 1.5 years).

That's kind of steep for any upgrade, considering you have already laid down a reasonable sum for the software in the first place.

I'm be inerested to know what percentage of users have yearly cover, who never make use of, or need telephone support, and are simply in it for the upgrades.
Further, what figure would make those not under cover, opt for a yearly sub - for me £100pa is a more reasonable figure, after you have spent £800+ on the software initially.

If you already have cover you don't need to buy the upgrade. I think upgrade costs without cover cost the same as cover. Call sales to confirm what special pricing is currently available.

The cover cost does reduce the more years you have cover. See the bottom of this page:
      http://www.actinic.co.uk/products/cover.htm
eg Business has a 30% loyalty discount from 4 years onwards.

You don't have to upgrade each time there is a version release thus "saving" yourself the fee.

You don't have to buy cover.

Thus you could buy the software and thats the only payment you make.

I realise you dont have to buy the cover.

So what price would be the upgrade from V5 to V8

Also Actinic have quoted me a very good price to upgrade my whole site. Well under half of what I have been quoted else where.

Andrew - version upgrade from 5 to 7 is £293 for Catalog or £412 for Business.
I would guess 5 to 8 will be around the same.

Duncan- As far as I understood the deal on offer, Actinic are offering 20% off product upgrades (Cat to Business, or Buiness to Dev) if you have cover.
I don't think they are offering 20% off version upgrades (7 to 8), nor 20% off taking out cover if you don't have it, though I may be wrong.

The loyalty discounts for cover are not retropspective as I unedrstand it - so if you have been under cover for the last 4 years, you still have to wait (and pay for) another 4 years before you get up to 30%.

Jo- No, you don't 'have' to upgrade nor take cover.
My point was that the cost of keeping up with the latest release is on the high side - whether its by yearly cover, or by paying for a version upgrade on its release.
Once you are using the software, a 'reasonable' annual fee to keep up with the latest releases (I suggested £100pa), might seem much more reasonable to many, and encourage greater take up, than a big whack of £300-£800 (or say 1-2 years cover at £350pa), to move from one version to the next.
Maybe I am in the minority of users who take out cover to keep up with latest releases, and hardly ever use telephone support - I'd rather have a cheaper rate to keep up-to-date, and pay for extended support seperately, if I need it.

At £200 +VAT for a years worth of cover and an upgrade to V8 seems well worth it then.

Seems to good to be true?

True, I just felt that £100 was far to little, you can't buy much for £100 nowadays.

Certainly sounds more exclusive than a Mackie-Morecroft partnership anyway, lol.

Doubt you'll be picking me in yer team for the Actinic Community Quiz Night then, lol.

I'd be handy if they asked which captain picked up three different trophies at Wembley in consecutive seasons though.
