Difference between .co.uk and .co.uk/index.html?

Hi,

I am using the brochure page as my main page and when I first uploaded I typed in my url and I got the brochure page as expected.
I have just modified my brochure page to remove 3 fragments, then uploaded again. Typed in my url and the brochure page did not change. I waited several hours only to find still no change.

If I type http://www.takesyourfancy.co.uk I get the old page.
If I type http://www.takesyourfancy.co.uk/index.html I get the new page.

I do not have a .htaccess file in use.
I have a robots file which simply stops gifs and jpgs being spidered.
I even purged and compacted (after a snapshot) before uploading.

I thought that typing in the ....co.uk automatically looked for the index.html file anyway. Am I incorrect in my assumptions?

I have seen mention of index.php taking preference but I can't seem to find this on my webspace. Is there one of these in Actinic somewhere?

have you cleared your cache?

it all seems fine to me, I viewed index.html first to hopefully see the new page, I then viewed http://www.takesyourfancy.co.uk and got the same page, unless the changes are too small for me to see

Hi Jo,

Just tried clearing my cache (even rebooted), same result, different pages.

The .co.uk page contains Cables, PC Accessories and PC Software very near the bottom of the page.
The .co.uk/index.html page has these removed (which is what I want, for now),

Just for information:

I tried again today and I get the result I want without having to add the /index.html bit.

It must have just been very slow server updates (or even my ISP caching the pages). I'll not worry about this in future.
