    Image in URL address bar

More and more websites are personalising their URL with the web address bar, with a small logo/image but how is this done - any ideas?

you need to create a small bitmap called favicon.ico and upload to the root of the server - if you have PhotoShop you can download a plugin to convert to the image to the correct format

I've never seen that before - can you post an example URL?

It wont appear in the bar in Internet Explorer - you need FireFox, Netscape etc

From what I remember from my time using IE, the favicon should show up in your favourites list if there's a favicon for that URL. I seem to remember it was a bit temparemental though.

I've always found it a real pain to find a decent *.ico creator. Does anyone know of a good, free piece of software that'll do this?

Hi Rob - if you use PhotoShop there is a plugin that will convert see http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tuto...r/favicon.html

The above link to favicon.com also mentions an online creator but have no personal experience using it - may be worth checking out

Thanks Jo. I tried it a while ago, but it was a Java applet, so it wasn't much use unfortunately.

Thanks Jonty. That looks to be really useful. I'll have to dig out my copy of PS when I get home and give it a go.

NP, I thought I'd used this in the past to create .ico

I certainly have used an online editor, it took all of 2 mins to create the required ico
