    The next Big Daddy!

We all know the effect that Big Daddy had on Google rankings - some sites are still suffering, well Matt Cutts has just said that another change may be on the way
"If we find out that we can improve quality by changing our algorithms or data or infrastructure, or anything else, we’re going to make that change.

The best SEO's in my experience are the ones that can adapt, and that say 'OK, this is the way the algorithms look right now to me, if I want to make a good site that will do well in search engines, this is the direction I want to head in next.'"

    Hi Malcolm,

Where did you find this? I even tried a Google search on portions and couldn't find a match.

OK. Found it. It's a transcription of one of his video talks.

My interpretation of this is different to Malcolms. Matt was talking about what a waste of time watching datacentres is as they're always making changes of one kind or another. Nothing I could see to indicate another big change is on the way.

Typical of Google - their so called announcements are often riddled with dead ends and open to much intepretation

The change is due to happen "at the end of the summer". What effect it will have is anyones guess but its worth making a note of the date and if anything odd happens to your site you may be able to relate the two.

As Mike says it is open to interpretation and I dont normally post things like this but Big Daddy affected alot of Actinic sites so I feel it is worth mentioning.

              Hi Malcolm,

I went and watched Matts video, rather than a dubious transcript, and you're right. He does say that a new update is on it's way. Pretty much already on some datacentres and once they're happy with it it'll get rolled out across them all (with a target date of end summer).

The update seems to be mostly about the 'quality' of the results with Matt suggesting people think about the quality of their page content and the sites that link to them.

I'm relatively relaxed about this update as I think most of my links are reasonably good quality and should hold up to inspection better than some of my competitors. If I do badly though I'm sure I'll do as much complaining about it as everyone else.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I know you have a good handle on the search engines which is why I was trying to find out more about the coming update.

              Mike
