    Adobe Illustrator

Having used Illustrator v10 purely for importing and then exporting clients artwork into CorelDraw (so I can manipulate in my preferred app) I am now needing to do more inside Illustrator itself.

I am trying, without success, to simply centre align several blocks of text with each other. I am shift clicking onto each box until the 4 are selected but then clicking on the align option in the align pallet does nothing. If the align to artboard option is ticked they all align left or right of the artboard .. unticked they just refuse to budge.

I am so used to CorelDraw (since v3) I am not spotting the obvious in Illustrator.

    Any ideas greatly welcomed.

Go to window > align and then select (shift + click) the objects you want to align. Click the 'Horizontal Align Layer' button (2nd from the left, top row).

That should do it for you.

    Edited:

Sorry, just read that what I described is exactly what you're doing. If it doesn't work then can't help, sorry. It's a bit weird as that's how it's done, don't know of any other ways of doing it. Been using Illustrator for years.

Thanks Scott - glad to hear it's not me doing it wrong again

I have just tried it again - but in a new document with new text - and the proceedure works perfectly as expected ... I can only assume the designer of the original artwork has done something funky with the text so it is not behaving as normal.
