    IE7 Released

I see that MS have finally launched IE7. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx)
Do Actinic have plans to officially test the browser soon with it's products?

On the subject of IE7 there may be a couple of points that might be useful to actinic designers.....

Dreamweaver - There was a bug with IE7 and dreamweaver that caused dreamweaver to 'forget' the remote server ftp settings, even when the 'save' button was checked. This was very frustrating as you had to re-enter the ftp details for a site in dreamweaver each time you opened it. (have not yet checked if the new release has resolved this issue or not!)

CSS - Microsoft has stated that many of the anomalies in the browsers rendering engine regarding CSS have been resolved. This is important news for CSS designs.
Many IE only CSS hacks have been used and are common place in many CSS websites to combat layout/design issues (e.g. The Holly Hack amongst others) and with IE7 this means that many of these designs utilising these hacks will be broken and designs may have to be reworked to maintain their browser compliancy.

The majority of actinic users may never come across these issues but I thought I would post it here just in case.....

Some testing has been done. I've just asked the developers for some feedback.

It seems that there is still an issue with Dreamweaver. As far as I can tell, if DW is launched when IE7 (v7.0.5700.6 in my case) is already running, the remote FTP login user name and password for the "current" site in DW are lost.

OK, with regards to Actinic, from out testing it would appear that

            Actinic + IE7 = Fine

No problems reported by any of the people in Actinic that tried it.

Naturally, we don't know what will happen with

Actinic + IE7 + Future version of Symantec

            or

Actinic + IE7 + latest Windows update + specific PC configuration

We'll be keeping a close eye on the community. Do let us know if you experience any issues after installing IE7.

I've been running Actinic in combination with IE7 for over 8 months. Early problems were all resolved.

IE7 still has some quirks - for example it handles padding in the same way that IE6 did. For a css side menu button of 180 width with a padding of 2, IE7 will produce a 176 pixel button.

The Program Owner has said that IE7 development will follow the official interpretation of CSS2 (he is on the committee) - which may not be the way the other browsers currently handle the css, so we will continue to find little inconsistencies to work through.

If anyone is suffering from lost FTP settings in Dreamweaver 8 as a result of loading IE7 - there is an update which fixes the problem:
