    PHP Book

With Christmas fast approaching wanted to put a PHP book on my list to Santa. With v8 now supporting PHP decided it is about time to learn it and wondered if anyone has any recommendations on a good book? I know there are online resources but you can't beat a good bedtime read

My programming knowledge stems from the BBC micro at school with the ability to print my name recurring across the screen - so any recommendations greatly welcomed to grasp the fundamentals and then expand it from online resources (probably Norman).

    Er.... PHP for Dummies?

    (Sorry)

I would browse a decent bookshop and try and find one I found readable - i.e. pitched at the right level.

Problem is working 6/7 day weeks so no chance to get anywhere near the book shops at the moment - this is my favoured method of buying books so may have to take it in book tokens and only have an envelope to open on Christmas Day instead of a lovely shiny book (sob)

Yep. PHP in 24 Hours by Matt Zandstra. Published by SAMS isbn 0-672-32619-1. And best of all it only costs £17.99.

Also the downloadable manual ( http://uk.php.net/get/php_manual_en.chm/from/a/mirror ) is very useful as a reference - it's one of my well used desktop icons.

That would save us all buying the book if Norman gave us the pointers needed
