Actinic Link and Sage line 50

OK i have never used it or sage line 50

But i thought i would have a look at it, the sage website offers a number of versions so i thought i would have alook at the actinic site for which version i need and it is missing.

So what has happened to the information on the actinic site, the only bit is the download file?

So can someone here offer some impartial advise.

I have requested the trial CD from sage and downloaded the link software. All i really want to do is control my stock levels, book stock in and raise purchase orders, but with the option to run my own set of accounts at a later date. Am i looking at the wrong software?

Actinic Link is always sold with Actinic Business now, so there is a link to the details on the 'Actinic Business' page:

The short answer is that Actinic Link will work with all versions of Sage Line 50 - but only 'Financial Controller' and 'Accountant Plus' have stock management features.

OK Having looked at the sage site again i think i might shelve this option. For the amount of sales i do having the option to raise a purchse order is a bit steep. If i was doing all my own accounts then this would probably be a good buy.

I also gather that actinic link does not work with any of the instant account packages.

Has someone tried another way of keeping an up todate stock record in an external database. All i really want to do is use an excell or similar spread sheet to book my stock in and give me current stock levels for re-ordering but i want the cost price associated to the product.

You could look at Quickbooks Pro, this will also monitor your stock, create PO and is a lot cheaper than Sage.

We've been busy too, we're supposed to go quiet at this time of year (hence year end stocktake is end of the month) but maybe people are buying nappies for Christmas, who knows!

We used to use Quickbooks before Sage but moved to Sage because (then) Actinic Link didn't link to QB. QB is a lot lot cheaper. I find Sage is actually quicker to use than QB for data entry type stuff like creating PO (with a lot of tab tab down arrow enter, tab tab etc, once you know which fields you're filling it's much faster than QB), it's also a little more flexible than QB(and I'm still learning it's quirks) and the accountants are die hard Sage users anyway, and it seems to be the industry standard anyway so I'm not moving back, want to sell the biz one day and move on to Other Things (in the pipeline).

QB was fine for us for stock control & PO creation, we had probably 1.5-2K product lines from 25 suppliers then and it was only that we needed to shift the orders into QB and Actinic Link then didn't do that was the reason that we moved over.

I think you can still download a 1 month trial version of both QB and Sage to play with and evaluate, am sure we did this with both products. Might relieve the boredom of the festive season, I am looking forward this year to slouching on the sofa with my laptop rather than actually having to pretend to watch TV or be 'doing something in the kitchen'

Thanks miranda, i ordered the CD from sage and am still waiting for it, i intend to look into this in the new year a bit deeper.

Not good to do it over xmas, probably end up getting divorced and besides my boy has got some great presents from santa this year

I have just joined your community. Please can you tell me from which website iIcan download the trial versions. I teach at the moment but wish to do a three day week next academic session and to use the rest of the week to get myself into book keeping. Is this a wise move, i wonder? Just getting fed up with teaching.

Will give me another excuse to browse your site for your address......used to be a kite flyer, I've got a few (old) stunt kites, a nice Delta wing, a few home meade ones and somewhere I have a still have a pink elephant I bought (to replace the pink pig a little girl let go of which was my favourite kite that disappeared up and away!)
